Posts: 937 | Hi-Seas Grandslam Braid for me. Does not fray or bleed is easy to dig out backlashes and is strong as hell and casts great. Jeff Hanson madisonmuskyguide.com

Posts: 238 | Back in the late 1990s when the superlines first came out, experimentation showed that superlines truly have no stretch and backlashes on line that's too light will snap. We were snapping off 1 or 2 lures per night in those first few days with 30# spiderwire and the original Berkley Gorilla braid which we ultimately determined was way too light. The line weight you chose shouldn't really be based on the weight of the fish you're after, it has more to do with the line's ability not to snap under the conditions you fish. For me, 50# is really too light and although it's not going to break on a single backlash, but it definitely will on repeated backlashes. Its diameter is too small and will wear when doing fig-8s after each cast where the rod tip guide is. I would recommend that you go no lighter than 65# for most applications. For me, though I use 80# line for most things and 100# for my big rubber (8oz Super Ds and Bull Dawgs on up). Thanks to all who've contributed - I'm finding this poll very interesting. I'm not at all familiar with Cortland Masterbraid and with so many suggesting it, I might have to see what that's all about. I see one post from someone who likes it more than power pro. Can anyone else who uses it describe it in comparison to power pro and some of the other popular lines. Thanks much!

Posts: 194 Location: Lake Elmo, MN | I like Suffix 832 but I must confess I use a GREAT mono from time to time. It's made by Mason Tackle Co and it's called Super Bass On. I use a 20 lb gray mono and have never once lost a fish. Hook sets are indeed challenging BUT I simply love the "quick release" I get at boatside in the net. No cutting hooks, no digging. Pop....out it comes once some slack is present.

Posts: 157 Location: Lincoln, NE | Have been using Spiderwire Stealth on all my catfish rods for years and Musky rods for the past 3 years. I 100% recommend it for it's strength for catfishing and still like it for musky but it does lose its coating and fade and fray a bit after time. I just spooled up with the Blue Cortland Masterbraid and am 100% sold on it. Not only does it look badass on my Big Nasty and Revo NACL but it casts so far and so smooth it just shoots out of the line guides and you have to thumb your casts before they go up in a tree. We'll see how it does after time against frays but it's supposed to not fray and not bleed like the others. You couldn't give me Power Pro.

Location: MN | I started with PowerPro and after several issues I switched to Cortland and have been very happy. The ONLY advantage Powerpro has over Cortland is Powerpro holds less water. All other advantages go to Cortland. I've also tried Suffix 832 and was happy with it but they don't make 100lb.

Posts: 910 | Rodbender - you're exactly right about Power Pro. I can't stand the waxy layer and it has a memory when you bend it. I believe TUF Line XP is the same way with that waxy outter layer. That's why I have stuck with TUF Original Salt and Pepper since I started musky fishing over 15 years ago.

Posts: 208 | I want to hear this also? I went in this spring and had my reels all re-spooled with line. I was really tired after a long week and i don't know how but i told the guy to fill my reels with power pro. I've always used Tuf line or master braid without a single issue. I see the majority has chosen power pro in the poll but some have claimed issues. Should i be concerned?

I started with Power Pro and had a few lures snap off, line bleed, and it brought a lot of water in with it which got cold in fall. I switched to Suffix 832 and it helped all those issues but does not seem to hold up near as long. I am trying Cortland Masterbraid on all lines this year and will see what happens.

Posts: 166 | Always used PP 80 and 100 for big lures. Switched to Suffix 832 three years ago, definitely won't go back to PP. With all the good reviews of the Masterbraid from Cortland, might try someday, but for right now, 832 is the one.

Posts: 90 | packz - 5/17/2015 11:43 PM Cortland is the way I go Yep if ya don't mind being soaked. Especially if chucking jerkbaits. You end up looking like you have pee'd yourself. Stuff holds way too much water. 100# Tufline, is the way to go

Posts: 90 | Ya, they all hold some water. That Cortland holds a lot, the most of any line, its like a sponge.

After years of using both I deduced from my experience that Power Pro is inferior to Cortland BB, and I/we are answering the OP's question to be helpful. Why is this "hating"?

Posts: 86 | I've used several. PP first, It has been over 10 years since I've used PP, so it might have changed since I used it last. PP just felt course. That was my biggest dislike. I like the older green Cortland. Much smoother. Ended up with spiderwire stealth. I fished cold weather alot and it held less mater than anything else I've tried at the time. I have heard good stuff about suffix. Might try that next time I need line.
