| I have a line on a cheap 7-8yr old Maxxum 80lb 52" trolling motor. I currently have a 70lb V2 and was thinking I would like to have both styles but have a few questions.
- is the Maxxum too heavy for my 16' Crestliner
- is it a mistake to buy an older Maxxum (don't know how the cable steers hold up)
- can I make my metal (mk16-02) Minn Kota quick release mount work for both the V2 and Maxxum if I modify/adapt it?

| Too heavy? As in the actual weight of it, or the 80lbs of power?
16' crestliner? Thats not helping.
Either way, it wont sink your boat.
I'd take an older cable drive before a power drive as far as reliability goes.
The mount? No idea. |

i was able to do exactly what you are wanting to do with my motorguide units and switched em out depending on where/how i was fishing. you should have no problem figuring out how to mount the base plate.
nice to have a backup ...
Maxums are tough as nails ...

Location: Waukee, IA | I have both a 70lb V2 and a 74lb Maxxum. The Maxxum weights a lot, but should be fine on your crestliner.
I know that the very first model year of the Maxxum they had issues with the cable mount in the head unit breaking under high stress, as mine did. But the replacement part was $12 and only $40 for the shop to fix. The years following the first model year have a much stronger cable mount that fixed the issue.
The mount plate might be a different story. The Maxxum has a far longer mount than does the V2. I have two separate mounts as I use the Maxxum as an emergency back up (requiring a change of brackets.) Someone else may know better if it's possible to use one bracket for both.

| Wow. That mount is pricey and the extra ate is another $100 in Canada.
I may have to modify my mount on my own. |
