Hi, I am posting this feed because I am wanting to buy a predator rod. I am a st. Croix guy but looking for a rod that exceeds 9'. Tell me why a predator? How did you make your decision? What makes a predator a predator? I am trying to gain more knowledge regarding the rod. Thanks for your help.

It's basically a Legend Tourney with a moderate-fast action (instead of fast) that you can have built exactly to your specs.
Worth every penny.

Love mine!! They are the Cadillac of Rods!!

Bought a couple 9' Predators on here over the last couple of years from other people. This year, I made the leap and had 4 - 9'6" built just for myself ranging from H - XXH. I can't wait for the season!!

Not to mention its probably one of the best musky rod blanks on the market today. SC has put more thought and engineering into their musky blanks than any other company I know of.

If you are a St Croix guy then you should love the Predators as they are made by St Croix to Thorne Brothers Specifications.... As mentioned up-thread...same raw materials as a LTS but to different specs.

You can get custom rod builders to build on Predator blanks too. Jeremy with Tuscarora has them in stock to build on. Just an FYI. He does some really nice work. Check them out:

Give Thorn Bros a call talk to Lonnie he can tell you every thing you want to know about the predator blanks. Lonnie can also help you decide what blank will work best for your needs . The best thing it's built the way you want it from over all length to handle length color thread when your done they will build you your dream rod.

+1, Jeremy is the man.

Thorne bros does awesome work from what I've seen and the numerous reviews you can read but they won't ship anything over 8'10 so if 9'3" is what you desire and you need it shipped keep that in mind.

About the whole shipping long rods issue:

I'm working on a new design with a Fuji reel seat ferrule system that will allow me to build on any blank and extend it to any length. The ferrule is under the reel seat and the two pieces connect with a lock nut that uses the reel seat threads.

I'm also working on developing a system that uses metal ferrules that join under the reel seat. The portion of the rod from the reel seat back will remove allowing easier shipping and storage.

I'm hoping the issue of shipping long rods will soon be a thing of the past- not to mention this will solve a bunch of issues for guys that can't store longer rods.

For certain. my go to rod is a Tuscarora Tackle custom. My wallet becomes magnetized every time I walk by his booth and drags me hinder first out of the aisle.
