Hi guys, I'm wanting to get into one of these tools for various duties in a couple of hobbies including making lures but various reviews of Dremel tools have been terrible.

A tool something like this...

Anyone have have any thoughts or suggestions or could recommend a better, more reliable tool?

Thanks,
Jeremy.

I have a foredom rotary carver and use kutzall bits. Love it!!!!
I also use an air turbine for fine detail. Forget the name but it's an xs400 model

I've had a basic Dremmel tool since they came out. They are handy for some things and fail at others. Like other tools, the more expensive the bits you put in them, the better they seem to work. If you want to use them for forming lures or adding things to lures, practice on some scrap wood first. I thought cutting mouths and gills would be easy, but I don't have the touch or the patience. Mine is 10 years old and still works well, though I don't use it as much as I thought I would.

I use a Dremel XP. Have had it for 7 or 8 years and have had no problems. But I only use it for light duty sanding/detailing baits and also for drilling thru wire hole sometimes.

Thanks all, I'll do a follow-up and see if I can use these per the costs. All sorts of good uses but mine now is for shaping some Suick tails.

The ones I bought are .03" thk and oversized. Some rework is in order plus they're really stiff to bend. I can get around that though if I drill a couple small holes for ease of bending in the boat. Wish I could find better ones but I'll make do.

All the Dremel tools I found were terrible for buying recommendations.

I'd use a bench grinder to help reshape those tails. Thats what I use for 90%+ of my metal "shaping" for creeper wings/brackets, globe props etc

Thanks Brent I think I'll do that. I was sort of considering it before, just wasn't sure and she's stuffed away. Time to warm 'er up!
