I'm going to Muskie Show in Milwaukee and would like to add to the tackle box arsenal (like I really need more). What was "THE" bait at the Chicago show as I wasn't able to attend? Did a special lure make you need just one more?
I needed to add this: One year it was the Weagle, than the Wable, than the Baby weagle, than DDG's. All these you would go th the show on Friday and they would be sold out. Then you would hear of a shipment on Sunday morning and you would go again and get the last color in the box. BUT YOU GOT ONE!!!!!

The one that I really wanted was the Lil Ds by Tackle Industries. For 4 bucks I got 2 of them and I have always wanted a very small version of the super D. Not for Muskie but I have a feeling it will catch a lot of fish. As for Muskie lures lake x lures cannon ball or any of the other models are very impressive

I believe they were a little cheaper but not much. I would have brought one but I make all of my own although I was VERY tempted I think they wanted 40$ for the cannon ball.

I pounded the hell out of the 3 largest sized ones last year, fat bastard, cannonball JR, and the cannonball, pretty close to indesructable. The cannonball JR was deadly at night.

I think I paid 35 for the Weagle and 28 for the Weagle Jr., so 40 is right in the price range. Not that I like to spend that much, but for a "guaruantee". ;~)
You can't take it with ya and why leave it to the kids........

The must haves are the tools you need for fishing the places and styles you like and want to fish. If you like casting over weeds, you probably won't want to buy a headlock. If you like casting open water on lsc you won't want a slow topwater like a weagle. Both are great baits but not your best choice in those circumstances.

The forum is a help for narrowing down certain baits that are new or someone knows are productive. The shows give most of us a chance to see a large amount of lures and the tank demo's help narrow choices. Your right on with it still depends on where you fish. I wouldn't of checked out the cannonball without someone answering the post and it looks like a productive choice as I will throw topwater a lot. keep the choices coming, we all need a little help.

Here's the pictures of the Lil Ds I was thinking of somehow using them as a chaser on a regular super d

That's a good looking lure. I'm good for one of those magnums. Those lil D's look deadly for smallies. Anything on the jigging end? The Bondy was popular last year, I thought that musky innov was coming out with something to compete.

Good point Todd. Most of todays popular and best baits are completely useless for what I like to do. I troll so I don`t even own a rubber bait. Very rarely troll blades. Crankbaits are pretty much all I use.

LOL "Tackle Industries" sold out of the LIL-D lures at the Chicago show. I was NOT expecting to sell out of a lure that would never be used for musky or pike! We will have 2x more at the upcoming Milwaukee show.

LakeX stuff looked great and some of the new swimbait colors by Rubber Hairy and Chaos looked great too.

Not a lure but the new St Croix musky rod really looked nice!

James

When I went to get my reel cleaned and looked at I showed a person in line them and he was impressed too. I remember someone put a small twister tail on a bulldog and called it a chaser rig I guess it's supposed to make it look like the fish is chasing another fish and not expecting to be bait. Even so I really like them and can't wait to try them!

I bet it works well bdog. Just so hard to get away from what you know. That plus harder to predict trolling depth. I have no doubt I will work though.

I am looking for a new top water and did not hit shows. Still need to find a cannonball Jr yet. Not sure on color though for clear lakes. Fire tiger is usually a good choice, but not their colors.

Wish I could have seen lures in action. Have to wait for MN muskie expo.

Hey Neil look at the website for Lake X Lures and they show a pool demo given by Muskie1st. I'm a little computer challenged but I know it's probably in the topics somewhere in this site. That cannonball has a nice "pop" to it, you can even hear the difference on the video.

Shameless plug here. We at Milwaukee Chapter of Muskies Inc will be at the show. And we partnered with Spanky Baits to create a commemorative bucktail to sell at the show. We designed it not only to collect, but to catch fish, too. I'm down for two already.

Check out the lure and if you want one, you can pre-order on the website, or stop by our booth to pick one up. The cost is $25 and remember, proceeds go to help us stock our waters as well hiring seminar speakers for the club.

I'll try to attach a picture.....

That's a great deal for a Spanky's bucktail in a custom color, especially when you consider you can catch a fish on a bucktail that helped stock more fish.

The Team Rhino Outdoors booth will have lots of "must have" baits at the Milwaukee show.

$25 for a Muskies Inc internet membership (no magazine). In case you are interested Netman. In Milwaukee it will give you better pricing on our two cash tournaments. And access to our speaker series which is loaded with great guides this winter. We just had Gregg Thomas talk. February is Rob Manthei. April is Matt Firestein (Catfish). May is Mike Koepp.

Had to take the bait and throw a shameless plug out there.

And in case anyone is wondering, the Muskies Inc lures are available for anyone, not just members.

I did attend one of the meeting as a guest last year and the speaker was informative. $25.00 is cheap for all that.....I was alway's taught that if your going to leave your neck exposed planned on seeing an axe somewhere. I'll see you at the show checkbook in hand.
