Posts: 1937 Location: Black Creek, WI | Its a crap shoot. Sometimes a big cold front really fires up the fish after the dog days of summer have set in. Won't know until you try it.

Posts: 386 | I'm more excited for the next few weeks after the original front, where it shows consistent temps in the low to mid 70's. This weekend, not so much but you never know unless you go. My favorite time of year is right around the corner.

Posts: 10 | It might be tough for the first few days but we need it. Early in the year when the water was cool I had no problem seeing fish. Lately things have been a lot tougher (although I did get one trolling Sunday). Weed growth has been great this year, so we just need colder temps to get the fish to move up onto them.

Posts: 112 Location: Illinois | X2 skunked this year. Have about 70 hours in between Minnesota,Wisconsin, and crappy Illinois. Have seen 2 fish and had 2 blow ups. Fished 2 10 hour days with guide and multiple days by myself. Worse year I've had so far. Come on fall!!

Posts: 19 | I've heard before that a cold front in August can get the fish going in some instances. Regardless, the temps after the cold front this weekend look much cooler or more moderate than they have been for as far out as the forecast goes so it should help start cooling the waters down, which I am glad about.

Fished 2 10 hour days with guide and multiple days by myself. Worse year I've had so far. Come on fall!! This was me last year (minus my trip to LOTW, but that's too easy.) I fished Iowa for probably close to 200 hours last summer/fall all to get skunked. This year has more than made up for it, averaging 18 hours per fish this far. Hang in there, they'll eat

The surface bait bite in under 5' can be absolutely epic all the way to turnover, even in pretty clear water.

Posts: 13688 Location: minocqua, wi. | played a different game and scored ... good times on the water if even for just a couple hours Sunday afternoon. was glad to be indoors on Saturday. Pretty cool to see my friend Steve Matheson's son Hunter won the Eagle River Tournament and not a surprise. I have a picture of him standing in the water releasing about a 44 incher he caught casting of their dock while we were launching a boat. I think he was like 4 years old in the picture with his little sister standing in the water next to him. Here was one of the fish we caught ... Posts: 400 Location: Metro | I ended up fishing the river for some "dirty fish" this weekend. We saw a whole lot of rain and luckily we had some tarps to throw up in some trees and hangout under. Ended up hooking into a flathead that night only to not have anyone willing to get up and take a picture for me. Oh well that's drinkin ha ha. Still very enjoyable being the first time I have seriously gone river bank fishing.
