I am headed up to Wisconsin this October to fish the big chip.I have a cottage reserved at R&R bayview resort. I also booked a guide for a couple days ,His name is Daryl Niebaure. This fellow has guided on the big chip and other local lakes for a number of years and owns Bitten tackle co.I have never been this lake before,So I thought maybe some of you might hsve been there and done that and could give me a few pointers.
Thanks and tite lines

I'd wear a T shirt that says "I believe in Louie Spray" That should give you all you need.

You are gonna love the R&R Bayview resort and enjoy the big Chip. Good luck with the Oct trip as we fish in late June. Going with a guide is great for getting you dialed in to the fishing at the time. Ty Sennet is a blast I boated a 38" two years ago with him.

I don't believe in Louis Spray's record, I do however enjoy the chip. Getting a guide is a great idea, there is a ton of water to learn. I am not sure when in October you are going, but if the weeds are still green I'd fish them. Since you'll be at R&R I'd fish Hay Lake, spots like the small island north of eagle's nest, hells half acre, and popple island are good starts. Certainly they are not secrets, but fish still do relate to those areas. There are a million spots and fun to explore. Have fun!

The Chip is awesome, but I've never fished it that late in the season so I don't have much advice for that time period. You probably could do a lot worse than using suckers and Suicks all week.

Should be a good time. My dad was out with Daryl last year on the Moose, great guy and guide especially for putting up with my dad and uncles antics. R&R has one of the better breakfasts' in the area as well. Have to say I'm a little jealous.

Use a ganged up sucker by Graveyard Point and hang on to your rod! And say thanks to Dettlof when you catch the new world record! Kidding aside, the Chip is a blast to fish, and the fish do get big in there.

So thats who Louie Spray is .Now that you mention it I do remember seeing an article about him while I was going through about 200 pages of guides and lodges on the net.I must apologise for my ignorance.I live in West Virginia and always thought Oddie Cuttlip was the greatest musky fisherman that walked.Thank you all for your info it will be a grear help.

O. Cutlip is probably the second greatest musky fisherman to ever live.

Louie is #1 and DOES hold the world record for musky.

However, late October can be a crapshoot on the Chip. Not an action period.

My advice might be to move your stay up to earlier in the fall, and at least catch the color period.

I don't want to be mean or open a long discussion that has probably been gone over too many times. But...there is no reason why Arthur Lawton is not given for catching the Record fish. It is crazy to think that a guy as devoted (addicted) to muskie angling as Lawton would lie about a fish he caught. I would suggest that it is the best anglers who are most serious in determining the size and weight of their fish; and really don't care who has the record.
