I was always under the assumption evinrude was poor quality like dodge as that is the narrative online. Feel bad for the employees, aren't they going to be manufacturing something else though?

Hasn't been my experience. I have had three generations of evinrude outboards:
150 Intruder, 135hp BRP era "Ficht", 60hp Gen1 etec. They all ran flawlessly for me. I know people that put thousands of hours on Gen 1 etecs. The Intruder, (the oldest, a 1996) is still my main outboard. When they went away from the Gen 1 etec is when they lost me. The G2, in my opinion, is just too much tech crammed into something in an industry that is trending towards more reliable, higher hp, 4 stroke motors. Looks like when it comes time to re-power, Ill be switching brands. Im sure the current pandemic has had an impact on BRP's bottom line. Evinrude may be a casualty of that too. I wish all the employees good fortune if they are indeed out of work. They built an excellent product as far as I am concerned.
