Hiya,

I too have just switched to the e-tec line and am very excited about it. Maintenance cost might be high when the time comes to replace plugs, but that only happens every 300 hours...which for many of us unless trolling will be at least 3 years. My rig has 98 hours on the motor so its not due for quite some time yet. The fuel filter is a simple spin-on water separating filter (at least for the larger motors) but again, that falls under the 300 hour maintenance schedule.

Other than swapping out gear oil at the end of the year, taking the 2 minutes to let the engine winterize itself, and keeping the oil reservoir filled with oil, there's really nothing more...

maintenance-wise, I don't see how there is any more than a normal 2 stroke engine...and I've run 2 stroke all my life.

Benefits: Lighter, quicker response, low end torque and trolling wise, it'll beat any 4 stroke..
