First time with a four stroke. Didn't check the oil. Was burning oil. So I was down 3.5 quarts when it was all said and done. I was having some running issues. Motor would bog down when fuel tank got down around 1/2 tank. So we were looking at the fuel pick up, looking for air leaks. Never even thought about oil. There was a minor squeal down in the battery/fuel/bilge area. Two of us didn't recognize it as the alarm. It wa that quiet. Anywho...damage is done once we finally diagnosed. Tech told me to take it for a test run. 20 second in...BOOM!!
