So, question for Steve or some of you guys who are more "in" with someone at Lund or a dealer, etc. Is Lund positioning this boat as a deep-hulled bass boat, or is it a multispecies boat with a casting-focused layout? Theres been a lot of discussion around this boat especially relative to the price-tag, as unless the Lund pricing tool on their website is off by 30% it seems like you'll be able to buy a fully rigged glass bassboat from numerous companies for similar money as this, so I wonder if people are simply assuming it's a straight-up bass boat (it does say "bass" on the sticker) yet it has a 25" transom and may be "more" than a straight-up bassboat--its kind of apples and oranges if that's true, but not sure to what degree...Seems there are really very few boats quite like this out there that combine a deeper hull with a bassboat-style layout. I ended up moving from a deep v boat into a glass bass boat because I couldnt find a boat like this--had I been able to have lund build me a custom boat a couple years ago it would essentially be this boat, it's uncanny how closely it resembles what I was looking for. Realistically I couldnt afford to have bought a new one anyway, but I literally couldnt even find ANYTHING similar to look at, so Ive never laid eyes on one, they simply dont exist in the market in anything resembling a significant way. Youve got the x-190 which seems actually to be a smaller boat given the width and which as a brand seems confined to the upper midwest; The 05 and 06 triton 21xd (no longer made) comes to mind, as does the new 22' ranger boat--but those are both much larger boats and they are glass. Im just wondering who Lund will end up targeting to buy this boat and for what. The tin bass boat guys seem to think this boat will be too expensive and will draw too much water and therefore wont be a good value and wont meet their needs, and in the southeast most assume rivets are inherently weak and that the vee-hull necessarily makes the boat "tippy"(lund has their work cut out for them if this is the target audience); the glass guys want glass in this price range; which leaves you with current tin deep-v customers who want a casting layout, which, based on available offerings seems a tiny niche. Is that a lot more people than I thought, or am I missing something? Im in sales in another industry, so it would be interesting to hear from someone with that perspective and more reality-based insight on this boat and what Lund thinks will make it tick.
