Location: Elk River, Minnesota		My gut instinct with what he stated was that he pumps them up so the spring has pressure on the system, which keeps the hub full.

I try to do every fall. Last thing I would ever want is to not replace, then find I had water in the hub, and the bearing and hub fail on a trip... Although I have the means with me to do a full repack on the road if needed, I'd much rather reduce that potential as much as I can.
