Foamy Engine Brite is great for anything you can spray and hose down if you have an area to do that.

Hand tools can go in the dishwasher when your wife isn't home.

Small parts, bolts, nuts/etc. I'd use a can of aerosol carburetor spray. That stuff dissolves anything, but it's hell on your skin, and it evaporates too quickly to soak much of anything.
