i can only speak from my experiences having traveled in boats with the two motors being discussed. these are not opinions, they are my experiences.
two years ago, i got stranded in a friends boat, on the great lakes, who had a Opti 115 (it was a brand new motor, less than a year old). i think that was the 6th time i had been stranded on lakes with friends that had an Opti. but this was the first time in stranded in boat with 115 HP Opti (also the only time i have even been in a boat with a 115 Opti). I think i am bad luck when i'm in some else's boat who has an opti. they just seem to fail at a higher rate than other motors i have experience with.
with that being said, i do most of my fishing on a boat with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. zero failures so far. but who knows, that might change the next time i go fishing.
no opinions, must my experiences, even though they are not vast experiences
