I would scrap the carpet idea and go with an alternative surface. The non-skid vinyl/polymer that comes as an option in many boats now is vastly superior to marine carpet in many ways. If you plan to keep the boat long term, this is what I'd do.

I'll never have carpet again in a boat. I've had the hard surface in my boat since 2015. Its so much easier to clean and maintain than carpet. Doesn't get slippery when wet, doesn't stain, and is not hot in the sun either. Think about it like this: what is easier to clean and maintain in your house? Carpet or a hard surface? The same logic applies in the boat.
