Mine was a 12" Fred Arbogast AC plug...fish was 38.5" and hit 4' from the boat. Scared the hell out of me as it flew through the air over the corner of the boat!

Jig and a plastic worm. Yes, I was fishing muskies. It was a good one, don't remember exactly how long but I had biggest in camp for a week of fishing. I think I was in my teens, 16 maybe. Fishing with my Dad, Tony Portincaso, Jimmy Cairnes, and the Rockford/Chicago contingent on a Fall outing on Bone Lake. What a rush.

I miss those guys some. Hope to see my Dad in April.

First musky was on little green and chartreuse Rapala DT-6 while bass fishing. It was a whopper at 17" long. Two weeks later I caught it's twin on a different lake, same little crankbait. First musky while musky fishing was a 28" caught on a custom painted Crane bait. Orange tiger. My wife caught a fish on the same spot the very next day with that little bait.

Summer of 1982 up on a lake in Michigan. Annual Family Reunion, same lake for 12 years through the years of 1980 through 1992. I knew Muskie and Pike were in the lake, I had seen the pictures and heard the stories. I immediately knew I wanted in on the action. After two years of that week-long family reunion trips in a row, finally, cut my teeth on Pike and Muskie fishing all in that same week that year in '82. Got my first Pike, a 29 incher casting a traditional red/white Daredevil spoon. Later that week, got a low 30s Muskie on a chart/silver J-13 Rapala. Have had the infectious illness ever since...

First musky was caught on a white Rizzo Wiz using a Tony Rizzo rod by South Bend loaded with an Abu Garcia 6500 C3. Caught it on Lake Wingra in Madison,WI. on May 5th with my two boys acting as guides/coaches/camera men. Don't remember the year or the length of the fish.

Been there and won't go back. I actually went there with my dad and some of his friends going for bluegill. We slaughtered them to the point I wished I would never see one again. Had blisters from cleaning fish! If I ever do go back it will be to go after muskie!

That's how I felt. It was fun catching unlimited panfish but the 3-4 hrs a day of scaling and filleting was miserable for a kid! I haven't been in about 13 years but if I went back I would target muskies.

All of a sudden I feel really old.
1958. Mudpuppy. Pfleuger skillcast. We were anchored and eating lunch. My Dad had just said,
"Put that #*^@ thing back in the boat and eat a sandwich, there ain't enough water here to hold a fish" , when a 42 incher hung itself on the lure as I attempted to lift it out of the water.
I remember it like it was yesterday!

I had experienced dozens of bites prior to that one, but this was my first hook up!

Carp Believer, fish won me 2nd in a friendly little derby...came to find out a couple years later it's actually a Golden Sucker pattern or something but since it also caught my PB it is and always will be referred to as the Carp Believer in my boat.

She was 36". I was trolling a black Hawg Wobbler at 11:00 pm on Labor Day. I was on baby lake with my dad neither of us had ever caught one and I had chased skis all summer out there with no success until that last night out.
