Posts: 265 Location: Central Pennsylvania | I'm planning on getting a flipping stick and a bass reel with some 50# braid for small bait musky uses with stuffs like jigs, jerkbaits, buzzbaits, oversized jig flies, that sorta stuff. What sorta reels are yinz using for these sort of setups? I'm seeing a lot of 17 Scorpion DC, 2012 antares, and curado 200E7s for very reasonable prices on eBay recently.

Posts: 3765 | A long, heavy action bass flipping rod with an Ambassador 4500 (upgraded with Smooothie drag washers) and 30# PowerPro is perfect for jig/creatures. Light, flexy and accurate but tough enough to hang a goat.

Posts: 3765 | Same same as always, tight but not frozen and be ready to back off if it's a big fish that wants to run. After the run(s) tighten back down and bring her to the boat. The river steelhead guys are the masters of long rods, light line and tweaking the drag during the fight. The original hand-held bass fishing "game" is a terrific way to practice because you can't catch the very biggest fish without modifying the drag throughout the fight.

A 200 size reel will work so will a 300 size reel. I run 50 on my Calcutta 200.which is the only high speed Calcutta. High speed being relative these days at 6:1
