| Good morning :
I have a trolling rod and reel set up question I hope you can help with. We troll everything from Super Shads up to 10 inch Mattlocks. I looking for a rod that will cover that spectrum. I like the Chaos trolling rods but they seem to have a really heavy action (fine for the really big stuff) but are they too heavy for the smaller baits ? Any down sides to that heavy of a rod ?
For reels I see everybody using the large size reels. Ive been looking at the Okuma Cold Water in the 20 size. Are these too small , with backing and figuring line to board and then to lure I should have around 100-150 yards left on the reel ?

| I bought one of the Chaos trolling rods this fall, primarily for sucker fishing. But, I have used it for trolling as well a couple times. With an 8" jointed Believer, I could see the action of the lure well enough to know when it is fouled by weeds. |

| Get the 303D size coldwaters. Even a small bait will load up a trolling rods at musky trolling speeds, H or XH is fine. |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | I use chaos rods for everything from 4 inch slammers to 12 inch mattlock baits. Drag matters.
I use Penn squall 20 lwlc reels on all 6 rods. |

| Never thought of spending big money on rods and reels that sit in a rod holder. The big money is set for casting,but that's just me. With that said, I use Shakespeare tiger rods in med and med hvy actions, with Penn Warfare and Squall 20's. These are also my sucker rods. Kdawg |

| I agree with K Dawg. I use Denali BottomFeeder Catfish Rods. They do not have inserts in the guides to break off. I have also had pretty good luck with Berkeley Catfish rods. Key is use cheap rods that will stand up to the job. Trolling is very hard on rods and reel seats, etc. You are ahead to have cheaper, dedicated set up's solely for trolling. |

Location: deephaven mn | Coldwater reels are great. i use the 153, holds plently of 100 lb cortland braid, to send your lure 50 feet back and 125 feet out to your board. The 203 will give you more line capacity if you desire. |

Location: oswego, il | You don't need a lot of line capacity for trolling musky.even on LSC your outside rod at best would be around 150ft. Maybe a charter could have more running 12 rods but not a small boat running 6. The 20 series Okuma and 27 series Diawa will have enough capacity. Make sure the reel has a power handle which you will want. For a rod Bass Pro sells a power plus boat rod for 29 bucks. The 2nd heaviest would be a good option the heaviest would be for big baits or suckers. Make sure it's the boat rod so it has the long handle the casting rod has a short handle. Boat Rod has big metal guides. |

| Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it. I think Im going to go with the Chaos rods probably an 8 , 9 and a 10 footer and Okuma 303 reels.
