hi all,

i'll be up on the spider chain 9/15. wondering if anyone has any interesting news of big or many fish, etc.

one interesting thing i found is this: http://spiderlakepikeproject.com/. trying to reduce the # of pike.

looking forward to this year as temps are starting to creep down and looks like there could be some rain.

past few years has been 80-90 degrees!!! bad!

thanks!

I like the pike deal. That would be great if this happened on every muskie lake in the area. Most are over run with the dang things. It's crazy how fast they multiply, they haven't really been in the chain that long. I haven't been to Spider this year yet, It wouldn't surprise me if you were unable to get from lake to lake with water level's being so low. There are a good number of landings that are not usable for anyone with a bigger than 16' boat around the area. Levels are down 18" to 2' on most lakes in the area.

thanks for the info, cdubs! i'll call musky run resort where i am staying to ask about the channels and lake access.

there is an eagle in little spider we feed with pike. it is amazing to see how it reacts when you get a bend in the rod--it knows there is a chance for dinner. lots of anglers must be doing the same. then it will swoop within 15 feet of the boat to get the busted pike.

hi all,

not great fishing 9/15. air temps ranged from 75 or so to 50. got real hot with no clouds during the day. water temp was broken on the fish finder but low 70s was pretty constant.

we had 3 boats. one 26 inch ski in the boat caught around 11am on a hot day. one other small follow but no other musky for us.

we were able to catch and kill roughly 10 small pike.

overall, tough fishing but great times.

Why did you want to kill pike?

Because they are great table fair. Although, you seldom get one of filletable size here.
Other reason in my opinion is that they have only recently been introduced into the system and have started to spiral out of control. They wreak havoc on Muskie reproduction (which there is very little to none anyway), but I think the biggest reason is that they prey on any Muskie stocking efforts as fish are generally released in the fall, from shore and we all know where the Pike are during cool water periods.

Spider does produce some beautiful Tigers in the past few years. I also take a few pike out of there for table fair.
