Hi,

Looking for feedback from anyone with the new Mercury Pro XS 4-stroke motor. Particularly the 200hp version. Which boat, and what prop and prop size/pitch are you running? What are your WOT RPM numbers and top speed, etc.?

Thanks.

Hi, I have a 200 pro xs on a 2020 T-Pro 195 Alumacraft. I have a 14.2x18p Enertia prop.
I absolutely love this motor. Loaded with a 9.9 kicker I can get 53mph gps at around 6100 rpms. The torque and holeshot are amazing!

Thanks Muskysaloon! I have a Recon 985 that I just upgraded to the 200 Pro XS from previously having the 200 Optimax. So far I too love everything about this new Pro XS, but I'm having a little trouble getting the prop dialed in. Currently with a 19 pitch Tempest Plus I'm only turning 5750 RPM and 54 MPH. With the Pro XS's RPM range being between 5600 - 6200, I'm at the low end. I should be able to get better numbers. But, already being at a 19 pitch I'm hesitant to go lower because all the calculators tell me that going lower in pitch will result in a loss of top end speed.

Also, with the Optimax I was running a 21 pitch and turning 5650 RPM with a top speed of 56 MPH. The Optimax proper RPM range is 5250 - 5750, so I was at the top end there. It just seems weird to me that being 2" of pitch lower now, I am only seeing 100 extra RPM. Two different motors I know, but same HP and gear ratio. If anything the Pro XS should be slightly more actual HP due to it being a high output motor. I'm perplexed why I have to go so low in pitch. Theoretically, based on what "they" say the effects on RPM by changing pitches is, I need to go down to 17 pitch to get my RPM's over 6000.

Your and my boat are very close to the same size and weight. Different hulls and aluminum versus glass, but still similar.

I do not have but they do run approximately 2 pitches lower than the two strokes did. This is because the lower unit has less slip and the extra rpm available. I would drop some more pitch to get to 6100/6200 rpm as everything will get better. Also there is a chance you are not getting 100% throttle. This can only be checked via merc programs on computers so it has to get into the shop and show 100% repeatedly many times in a row. (It's common to get them and only be getting 90%)

Location: Hayward, WI
Look up Mercury Boat House Bulletins for some comparison info.

Is motor mounted in the same hole as your old motor? Possible you may need to raise it a hole.
