I'm trying to replace a damaged rear seat base in my 2008 Tuffy Osprey. It seems to attach to the boat differently than the fronts by using nuts and bolts vs screws. None of the access areas allow the ability to get under the deck there. Any help is appreciated.

The only way there are bolts is if there's an access hole under the seat, and in that case you probably have T-nuts in there. Driver seats were installed by the dealer back then unless the factory was requested to rig the rear base. No floor base hardware went into the boat before the liner was laminated in.

There should be an aluminum plate laminated under the rear seat, and screws should be the correct fastener, but who knows what happened to the boat when it left the factory.

Thanks, Steve. That's helpful information. If I can get this thing removed, it sounds as if I can rotate the new base and tap new holes.

Yes sir. Be careful drilling. Make the drill only long enough to break through the floor. Make sure to goop up the screws with a marine grade silicone.

I removed the old base by drilling out the tops of the bolts. It seems the decking has no additional support in that area (hence the zerts). I've epoxied a wide-flanged "weld nut" on the underside of the deck in the new hole locations to provide additional strength and future removability. I appreciate your thoughts on this.

I'd like to understand what you can tell me about the metal flake used on a boat like mine. I have a few chips (it's a 2008, after all) and if I wanted to do a repair, do you have suggestions on the material to use (flake size etc)?
