looking to get more into trolling this coming season, so im considering getting a kicker motor. boat is a 96 stratos 219f (19'3 x 92") with a 150 evinrude intruder with seastar hydraulic steering. what should i look for in a kicker? im half kicking around the idea of mounting a fuel tank in the back where the oil tank is since i premix for the old rude'

9.9 ? 20" shaft ?does this all sound about right ?

Hiya!!

I'd look into a 9.9..that should be decent enough.

When mounting a tank, though..be sure to have it vented out the side of the boat...not too hard to do. If you went with a 2-stroke, you could put a canister fuel filter in with multiple outlets, then run a separate hose from there to the kicker...

I installed an on-board tank in an alumacraft lunker years ago. had the tank custom built, then vented it out the side and an inlet on the top... Worked pretty well and helped to balance the boat when fishing as I normally fished off the port side in the front, but with others in there, it would lean a bit. The tank helped to offset that.

might consider a 15 hp. if your doing muskie trolling speeds. thats alot of rig for a 9.9 doing 4+ constantly.

I'm a fan of 15 hp for musky fishing. Easier to go at x mph while at lower rpm= quieter

One thing to consider is getting a kicker that has both an electric and pull start. I have that on my Suzuki 15hp kicker. Only needed it once, but it was a good thing to have. I could have anchored, unhooked a trolling motor battery, replaced my starter battery and hoped it had enough juice, but didn't need to go through all that on a cold, windy October day.

that is something to think about. I do keep a jump box in my boat though just in case, so i guess its not a huge deal if it has it or not, im not really brand particular, so ill probably buy what seems to be the best deal.
