What if OFM was to launch a website where you could sell your custom creations or any lure for that matter on your own page under your own brand, and the charge was around 10% of the sale? We would do the advertising and social pages work to make it popular, plus you could sell directly to the OFM visitor. All you would need to do is have good photography and copy. Inventory would be managed as well, automatically.

This would also apply to large builders with custom colors and a desire to hook up directly with our hundreds of thousands of absolute unique visitors each month.

What say you? We already have the site roughed out.

As a consumer, I would love to buy some lures from the talented craftsmen I see on this site. Although, some are so incredible, it would be hard to actually use them ;>).

Why not just put it for sale on the buy sell trade forum and save the 10%? Is the work that OFM does really going to boost the sale of the product to justify the 10% charge?

I know that lake-link charges to post on its classifieds, but doing that could effect the traffic to your site. It’s a good thought but I look at a guy like gringo, he would need no help selling his baits they go like hot cakes! Maybe offer it as a subscription package? Have different levels of membership?

Because it's against the rules of the BST forum, and we WILL delete any retail attempt by a custom builder brand or other retailer who did not arrange a deal with us. We have paying sponsors keeping this board so you have free access, would not be fair to them. We never intended this board to be a retail site even for the popular custom guys, assuming the larger ones would have a website. We mostly just looked the other way, but it's now almost impossible to. That's cool if they do have a website, but we do not allow unsolicited advertising either.

And a definite yes on the increased sales due to our promotional work. We currently assist 53 brands in the industry doing exactly that. That is one of a couple of OFM's main activities, which is promotions and social media content creation, management, and growth. We reach well over a million anglers.

No subscription fee would work, the E commerce solution we developed works as I described. The website is professionally created, hosted, and managed by Outdoors Engine and is state of the art. Look to suick.com, bncustom, Ozark Rods, and H20 tackle as a few examples of the work.

No one will be personally asked to join, it's up to each builder. We figured there are a lot of them without a properly configured web page with an e commerce solution, and this would be inexpensive and attractive. We are also offering it to the large bait builders to fill the gap with the shows closing down for selling custom colors.

Works for me. Not having the shows is a real bummer. I look forward to seeing it.

I like the idea and it gives basement builders exposure outside of word of mouth and trying to find them on FB, .most of those pages seem disorganized, no pricing and poor display of product. This could open up european bait makers to the US. Adding lure demo video would be a plus.

I think this would be a great idea and likely would attract additional talented bait builders to the site once the word got out. Currently, there is no telling when shows and swap meets will be back in action. This would be like a permanent show with an online inexpensive booth.

It’s a good idea but I think too late - Facebook muskie bait selling sites are so popular now that I think most builders won’t bother with web pages unless they want to start their own up for higher volume sales. Musky guys are so into custom baits and these Facebook pages are currently where it’s at.
Not trying to slam your idea or product Steve - just sharing my opinion. I still love this site but FB is the best tool for me to sell baits right now without losing 10%.

While I know I, and a number of others, are in the minority, and probably economically insignificant, we will never see anything on face book, as we have nothing to do with it.

I like the idea. There aren't many "basement builders" down here as far as musky stuff goes, and the closest show venue to me is Makoy Center in Ohio (6:00/330 miles each way). As Todd said, there might be some interest from some of the European manufacturers as well..

As someone who does one off builds and limited batches in my spare time, I also like the idea. Not into Facebook or other sites to sell baits, but would be interested in seeing such a format started.

------------

For about 10 years OFM has been what's considered in the trade as social media marketing 'experts', whatever that means. Facebook is fine, but by it's nature the platform severely limits reach to a tiny percentage of the fans on any one page....unless a significant amount of money is spent. That's how the owner became a billionaire, with a B.

Facebook, whether folks realize it or not, is pay to play. 'Groups' were designed to increase ad consumption for paying clients. What we will be doing is promoting the pages through our 20 plus muskie related pages we manage and partner pages, that actually works really well. We'll drive social traffic to each page, and have a built in audience that averages a few hundred thousand absolute unique users each month out of a base of over 700000 total, and everyone who visits muskiefirst.com can see every update every time. So we have our social reach and built in audience combined with a highly targeted monthly spend on FB and Insta and all the small biz folks here have to do is build and sell. Well be opening the store in December.

Lastly, a lot of websites died recently from the social poison ONLY because the owner didn't know how to drive real sales from social to web.

It's a smart idea. I look forward to it's creation, for sure. Facebook is not where it's at for me. Walked away a long time ago for the exact reasons Steve mentioned ("pay to play" and I was tired of paying that cost). While I've enjoyed the work of basement builders for a long time, I've never been all that interested in chasing down the where and how of purchasing their products. Joining them together will have me looking at their work more often and far more likely then of adding to my full arsenal.

I would be interested and would like to see something first but first I better get to work finishing up my lures in the next two months so I can go fishing and leave the your selling site work for me. I try to do my work during the winter months and fish in the spring, summer and fall.

Do you have some sort of a rough draft that you can show or just not ready for that now, or maybe a PM will work.

Look at suick.com or bncustom.com for the build. Each builder/seller would have a page and product base pages.
