I have a Daiwa BG 3500 for saltwater, about 100 bucks and you can get bigger sizes. Great reel.

No reel will last forever, however, if properly maintained, I would look at a Penn Fierce for around 100, or a Penn Battle, a little over a 100. These reels should serve you well. Kdawg

Why use a spinning rod and not a bait caster? Generally speaking, with the weight of muskie baits, casting a spinning rod can take a toll on your trigger finger if you fish long days. I tried it and parked my spinning rod and Penn spinning reel after the first hour I used it. For trolling, or a sucker rod, it would be fine. I bought the spinning rod for muskies but still have the reel from my surf casting days when I was stationed near the coast while in the Navy.

Diawa bg 4000 would probably be good. Reels require maintenance, regardless of price. Maintain them and they will last.

My Vexan Pro staffer that goes for 800lb+ gators in Florida uses 5000 and 6000 series Penn reels and loves them!

Don't know if you are still looking for a reel or not but I agree with the daiwa bg series. Something around the 4000 size. I bought the 8000 and it is GIGANTIC if I'd know that I would've gotten a smaller version, having said that it is a true powerhouse! The bg line comes with bigger gears than other reels. I've witnessed their power first hand when I hooked onto a porcupine crib with a double showgirl. By simply winching on it I bent the hook and ripped of an 8ft section of lumber as thick as a forearm. I had 100lb reaction tackle braid ( cheap Amazon braid) . And it's still as smooth as the day I unboxed it. For $100 I'm not sure they make a better reel for big gamefish. Bigger gears, bigger spools, high drag power and smoothness, smooth operation, excellent quality for $100!

Bait casters seem too complicated and while a daredevle could catch a muskie I’m mainly using something like this to prevent loosing lures

With your rod choice, a 4000 size might be the best for balance. Kdawg

Although more than $100, the stradic 5000k is an awesome reel on my cabelas predator musky spinning rod.
