My son, 10 years old, wants to start making some bucktails, I would.like to put together a kit for him with some.pre tied skirts, maybe a kit just to make 5 or so bucktails, I can twist the wires, I have done a few replacing shafts for somevof my bent up bucktails so basically looking for beads skirts blades, clevics, ect.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where to order?
Am I going to spend.a fortune to get this? Would I be better off buying 5 bucktails and disassembling them? This is a route I'm considering strongly because then I'll know the blades hooks and beads will all be the right sizes.

I just don't want to pay $50 -$100 and end up with a bunch of bucktails he isn't happy with, and I don't have a ton of knowledge on ordering parts/sizes ect.

Thanks for your time

Definitely I would give Dick a call, although I think he is up in LOTW right now.

Just to give a general idea about components costs, here is a breakdown of a previous order. The below does not include beads. I generally use 1/4, so add about $9.00 for 50 of the solid variety.

As far as skirts / bucktail coils, I generally am terrible at that, so I reach out here, and there are guys that will help you out with just the flashabou skirts / marabou to use with the components.

Item # Qty. Size Style Color/Finish Description Total

102-008 2 8 Plain Nickel - 39 Heavy Colorado ( .040 ) $4.30

102-008 2 8 Shaded Chartruese - 09 Heavy Colorado ( .040 ) $4.00

420-038 6 3/8 oz Egg Sinkers $1.02

420-012 10 1/2 oz Egg Sinkers $2.00

027-008 100 8 38/39 50 Nickel Easy Spin clevis $6.10
50 Brass

063-050 20 12 inch 0.5 Looped Wire Shafts $7.40

215-051 10 6 Mustad Treble Hooks $5.55

187-014 3 Feet 1/4 Heat Shrink Tube - 1/4 $2.85

Total for Goods $33.22
Shipping $6.50

Amount Enclosed $39.72

Hard to know if buying and chopping them up is a better option versus buying all the components separate. Let me know if you have any other questions.
