I am hoping to get a reel that can cover all the basics for Musky fishing ie casting, trolling. And which one will hold up best in the long run. I have done lots of research but can't find any great summary with a comparison between these reels.

From what I can see the only issue with the tranx is the side plate coming off at times.
For the Daiwa WN- some people were not liking the WN - backlash, unspooling issues...
For the Daiwa HD - haven't heard of any issues.

I have considered other reels but with what I have seen I have narrowed it down to these 3. I guess I am wondering if the tranx is worth $400 (i live in Canada), and if it has enough line capacity for trolling. And if the Daiwa WN will just not last nearly last as long as the others.

None of the reels you have mentioned have a clicker for trolling. That being said I have a 400wn and a tranx 400. And would pick up the lexa over tranx 400 every time but that’s just my opinion.

The Lexa HD can be had for about 175 on ebay when the 15% off everything comes around... Hard to beat that deal.

If the winn version of the Lexa is not the same guts as the HD I wouldn't get one. I've burned up a couple regular Lexa 400s in less than a full season. I have no first hand experience with the HD models. The Tranx 400 is an awesome reel for its size and the durability is incredible from my experience. My vote would be the tranx without hesitation.

No way I will ever buy a Lexa. They have broken more than any other reel in my boat.

Tranx 400 is much more durable than the Lexa.

My friends and I will never buy lexas again, and our experience has pushed us away from the diawa brand in general. I've never been a bigger shimano fan boy than I am right now. That 400 tranx is incredible.

Beauty, I guess I am sold on the Tranx. I was hoping the Daiwa was going to be the one, as it's almost 130 cheaper. It looks like Doug Wegner uses a Daiwa HD, who I follow, but I guess he probably gets reels for free so that makes it easier. Thanks everyone for the help!
