Just as I stepped out into the river and made my first cast this morning, the sirens sounded the alarm that the Corps of Engineers were going to open up the flood gates to release our flooded lake. I made two more casts and this musky came out from under a log and attacked my Manta glide bait like a shark. Fins and tail were thrashing like crazy. I got her up to the bank and grabbed my poles, my backpack, and her, and ran up the bank to stay out of the rising river. Within about a minute, the spot where I had been fishing was under about 5 feet of water. I took two quick pictures, measured her at 44 inches, and plopped her back into the river. Lots of excitement for only three casts.

Always know the flow, what that flow means to where you are fishing, the flow forecast for the day at the minimum. The army core publishes this information daily.
