Thinking about giving the river a shot this year for walleye and muskie. I’ve only fished it once years ago for bass. Any recommendations on stretches that I can fish a deep v without much worry that also has good reputation for muskie and walleye?

Where are you, most of it is impounded and pretty much all of it is stocked with musky.

How is the stretch just south of Tomahawk?

Alexander in Merrill is good (easily fished with deep V), never fished it just south of Tomahawk but I'm sure it's worth fishing. I've hit between Wausau and Merrill the hardest.

If you are coming up that far you might as well fish Mohawksin or Alice

I would counsel against a deep v on the Merrill-Brokaw stretch as it is very sketchy, but other than that you should be fine (within reason). Also, they are drawing down Wausau Dam Lake (Brokaw to the Wausau Hydro) for repairs this season.

I am the president of the Wausau MI chapter, I know most of the guides and good fisherman from Tomahawk down to Mauston. PM me if you're looking at a specific stretch and I can get you more information or put you in contact with a guide for that stretch.
