Over the years I have watched a number of muskie fishing videos shot on Lake St. Clair. It seems like the overwhelming majority of baits thrown on St. Clair are rubber of one type or another with Bull Dawgs being the go to choice for rubber. A distant second appears to be bucktails. I can't remember ever having seen a surface bait being thrown. Is there a reason for this? Has everyone ever thrown surface baits, and if so, have you ever had any success?

I'm a deep water plastics guy around here but I dabble with my own topwaters. However no floating bait I've ever made has ever got clobbered as much as this one has for my clients and I...

I’ve seen them numerous times come up and try to eat a planer board out there. Muskies are Muskies no matter where, and it’s very much a copycat game as far as what baits to throw.

You can try it. I have had planer boards eaten out there. At times will be impossible with the floating grass.

I like Mr. Bondy's choice of a Rumbler, my all time favorite topwater.

Yep. That's the big deterrent, for me.

The more weight you put on bucktails the faster and deeper you can run them. It's not like you have to worry about getting hung up in the rocks.:-)
