I am gonna buy a tranx 300 or 400 pg. My dilemma is, after handling them both I want the 300. But I am wondering about the line capacity of the 300. I will be putting 65 lb braid on it, so it will hold 125 yards. Will I loss a lot of ipt when I make longer casts? I want to go with the 300 as it’s more comfortable for me than the 400. Or should I sacrifice some comfort for more line capacity with the 400?

I use the 300 with 80lb sufix 832, and love it, i would only go 400 if i wanted to use 100lb.

I’m sure both would work for you. However the 400 would be my suggestion. I have s/m hands and the 400 has never felt uncomfortable to me. Then if you ever needed more capacity, you’ve got it.

I've got 3 of the 300s filled with 65lb braid and my casting distance is about the same as my partners who fishes the 400s. I'd say he may get 10-12 ft more on a bomb cast than I do. I love the reel! NO REGRETS.

I recently went through the same dilemma. After having them both on the rod I did not notice much difference in the hand to be honest. Went with the 400 and love it.

I went through the same, ended up going 300 size, using 80 lb. braid. The loss of IPT on a typical cast is not extreme. My reasoning is in this thread: https://muskie.outdoorsfirst.com/board/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=11...

Two seasons later, I have 4x 300hg for my casting reels and don't use anything else. If the 400 was comfortable, I would say by all means use that, but the 300 sure fits nice for smaller hands. The only downside is using thicker 100 lb braid is probably not feasible - just have to be careful when you are throwing the heavy rubber.

I have a 300 and 400. I run 80# on 400 65# on 300. You can launch the 300 with 65#. If you more comfortable with 300 its more than capable

Jut picked up a 300 and wow is it smooth and casts great. I was testing with D8's and it was like they weren't even there. Can't wait until spring when I can really get to use it.
