So I'm thinking of looking for a low gear ratio reel for double 10s and for using at night....is this a decent reel? I'm going to start looking around for one for sale...My Christmas present to myself

Posts: 1100 | The winch reel is great, i also use them for when it for when i want to go really slow. I would love to have a Tranx 401 around the 22-23 ipt mark, but that not likely to happen.

At a seminar this past winter, between sessions, Steve Heiting, editor of Musky Hunter magazine mentioned how he loved the Revo Toro Winch and had bought several of them when they were going out of production.

Posts: 2219 Location: SE, WI. | Dan; it is plenty fast/ slow for working flaptails and all topwater lures. The only topwater that I'd shy away from the winch is a weagle/ WTD style lure where I may need to pick up line quicker! Had a client few years back using my sling blade / Winch combo. He was amazed how smooth the winch complimented the rod. In reality, I knew it was the balanced Rod, in accordance to the reel;) that made it a treat to fish!!! JD

Posts: 1100 | Sling blade is just a freaking awesome rod for a lot of the "not so heavy" stuff

Posts: 8703 | We love our winches. Forces you to slow down with tail props, makes throwing big blades effortless. But... If you have a fish eat and swim right at you, good luck catching up to it. That scenario has cost me a few big fish. The reels themselves?? Well... Let me just say I've broken my fair share of reels. Have yet to break a winch. I'd buy one for a spare if I found one at a good price even though there's nothing wrong with the ones we already have.
