I usually store my boat in my garage for winter with the cover on because of some woodworking that I also do. I'd like to cover it this year to keep out the sawdust only this is the first year I've had an on board charger. It's a bass pro shop charger and while plugged in it doesn't even give off heat to the touch...question is, would any of you cover the boat while still leaving the charge on or is this a bad idea?

Thanks,
Jaimy

Refer to the thread "Batteries and Winter"... probably the quickest and best answer to your question.

Hiya,

Shouldn't be an issue... Once the batteries are topped off, you only need to plug in for an hour or so once a month to restore the little (if any) loss of charge. The automatic chargers usually go into a trickle (2 amp) mode for maintaining when the charge is close to full, so very little heat will be generated. Plug it in when you go out to work here and there and you will be good to go.
