Looking for general opinions, not necessarily targeting Muskie. I would like to compare the Tower end vs the Cook end of the lake. Which is better for...........

A) Structure
B) Fishing pressure
C) Pleasure boaters, jet ski's, party barges, big cruisers
D) Lodging, including resorts, motels but mainly a campground / resorts with seasonal campers.

I fish pretty much alone. Kind of a multi specie guy but focus a lot on Pike. My party days are behind me. Decent restaurant near by is a bonus but not a deal breaker. If I end up at a resort with a seasonal spot a dock with electricity would be great.

I know there are guys who both live on or near the lake and a lot of guys who do the Spring Bay get togethers. I would like your opinions and thoughts, not looking to start a pi$$ing match or arguments.

Thank you.

Unless you want a cozy right on the lake and the up north experience,,,the best place we have found to stay and we've stayed on many on V is fortune bay casino. I still have never seen a better boat launch in the state and it is patrolled constantly. Nice comfy rooms a 24 hour snack bar if you stay out late, a nice restaurant and buffet if so inclined. Laundry for drying out rain gear. Sauna and hot tub for soaking those aching muscles from casting. Right down the road is the gas station and liquor store, Not far away from the vermilion club and the bamboozler!!!
I don't golf but people rave about the course, if it rains you can casino it.
You get plenty of scenery while out on the lake we just love all the amenities and convenience that's available 24hrs.
And they also have a campground I don't know about the hookups.
And plenty of spots on that part of the lake.

I love the West End for bass, pike, crappies, and big gills, lots of water that gets little pressure for those fish. Muskies there too, with very heavy pressure. I see way more muskies on the Aqua-Vu searching out big crappies than I do fishing for them.

Walleyes are within a 10 minute to 15 minute ride and not hard to catch. There's boats all over the Big V, but they stay pretty much out of the smaller bays and nook and crannies I have found to be really good over the years. Do well on Pike on chatterbaits, Violent Strike 9s, and jigs and creatures; don't ignore Black Bay. Largemouth fishing is ridiculously good n the edges and early up in the stuff, as is smallmouth where they should be. Check with Steve at Spring Bay, if they do not have what you need, they will be happy to make a recommendation.

Thanks guys.
I have stayed at Fortune Bay many years ago. I agree that marina is second to none. I thought the motel rate had gotten a bit high when I was thinking about going there last year. Maybe they had a event going that spiked the price. I dunno.

Spring Bay is on my list, i'll give Steve a call and see if they do the seasonal thing for campers.

Thanks for the info so far....I look forward to gathering more.

They only have 3 camper spots... and are rented to seasonal people. I screwed up and lost my spot last year. Was there for 6 years, love that place... I will be back ! one way or another.
Maybe Steve needs a new maintenance or Dock Stud... Hint, hint..
Best people in the world, and great place for sure.

Timbuktu (next to the Cook Golf Course) has seasonal spots, but it's off of the lake and right down the road from Spring Bay.. Also nice people. The Crescent Bar & Grill is 2 minutes from there and has good food and Beer.
Hoo Doo Point has seasonal spots..
Fortune Bay does not have sewer (dump station) but is a really nice camp with Clean Showers and rest rooms, plus you can use their pool/hot tub and Marina . $300. for a week.... It does get crowed on the weekends/summer... McKinley Park has camping.. both are on the East end.

The West end has the great panfishing. The east side has perch but I nor my kids ever caught a decent one. For the east side glenwood lodge is nice in that it gives you all the options. Big bay is really close but if it's windy there is more than enough areas on the east and north side of pine. Good bass and pike fishing. Rice bay is full of pike, so is the elbow bay and a couple others on the north side of pine. Walleyes good too. Glenwood has campers there so it's worth inquiring if it interests you. You are about half way between tower and ely when you get to the highway from the resort.

I would recommend somewhere in the center of the lake, just so you have the flexibility to fish/see the whole lake.

If Spring Bay is full, White Eagle, just across the street and down a block or so, is a great place too. Awesome folks and a nice place. Not sure if they have a seasonal spot or two anymore though. Used to stay there in the mid 90s. Mike and Bonnie retired, but their kids now run the place.

I like to try and stay centrally located on the lake. In the summer I’ve stayed at Daisy Bay and there is good muskie in there too. Some resorts also offer discounted rates for certain weeks in the summer, check their websites for this. In response to questions A, B, and C, they are pretty equal from one end to the other. If you’re looking for weeds you may find more on the west and west central part of the lake

Whispering Winds on Jacobsons Point is a good spot. Great musky water right there, but the real draw is Jeremy. Go fish with him for a day or two and you'll have a pattern developed. He's on the water almost every day, puts big fish in the boat. His info has often been key to putting fish in the boat, on a sometimes challenging body of water

Thanks for all the responses so far. Thought I would drag this up again in case some people are staying out of the bitter cold hanging on their computer. Any and all information is appreciated.
