Hey Everyone!
Still trying to get my first ski. Heading out to Eagle Lake next friday for the first time. Probably going to be doing some trolling - i hear lots still catching on LOTW casting still but I'm thinking we'll be on the troll.

For Eagle Lake are there better parts than others to fish? If so would you be able to help me out?

What are your fave trolling lures?

I've only trolled once so any help would be appreciated!

One of my best series of "go to" trolling lures on Eagle are flat sided cranks. Grandma's, Jakes, Livingston. I am packing for a trip this weekend up there as well and I must have 40-50 various of that style amongst others packed along. If I had to bet on some colors and could only take 4 they would be: Tennesee shad, Black with Silver Prizm, Orange Firetiger and this time of year anything Cisco color, with is close to what I call Tennesee shad. (I know that's a wide swing, and my fishing buddy will always have a black with gold prism) I keep them back about 80' or about 4-6 complete passes depending on line diameter, reel size etc I try to get them to the bottom of the baitfish schools. That puts them down about 14' or so. I don't go by the trolling books although they'd be a great resource. I found an area years ago with a gradual hard bottom and worked by trial an error to find my depths.

This may sound trite but the areas change with the location of the baitfish, follow your locator, usually breaklines around 30-35' are where I tend to find myself, but not always, my records tell me more often than not. I've fished from the main basin, Vermillion Bay to the West Arm, along with Portage and Osborn thrown in. Find the baitfish schools and you will up your odds.

I'm sure other baits will work, like Depth Raiders, Believers etc...but my notes going back to the late 80's pigeon hole me into my methods I'm currently using. Yes, I have used many other trolling baits, but this is what I come back to. I have a series of Live Target Lures that I'm going to run this fall because they look awesome and have some great Perch and Sucker patterns.

I wouldn't feel right going trolling without a 12" headlock... color is up to you, but I'm partial to white, chrome, anything that resembles a tulibee or whitefish. I also like the usual walleye and perch patterns.

I just got back from Eagle on Saturday. 5 days of fishing we boated 17 muskies.

Trolling 12-14" Headlocks and Matlocks over shallow rock reefs (10-14') and rocks bars off of points were the pattern. Dark colors, gold sided baits, and perch were the hot colors.
45-51' of line out at 3.5-4 mph with the baits on the first (shallow) setting.

Good luck!

Thanks you guys that's awesome I really appreciate it! Which section of the Lake is best do you find? I'm looking at the map and I find the west side of the lake may be a little shallow in that there is no deep cover nearby - I am I on the right track with this? Are there good places to launch? Again, many thanks!

We were fishing the south end of Eagle (Osborne Bay) and we would see Andy Myers and Temple Bay lodge boats come all the way down to fish the south end every day, so take that for what its worth.

That's a thing with Eagle. Meanwhile all the Temple Bay guys and North Shore guys are fishing down around AML...

Don't you mean the Temple and AML boats are fishing the Century Lodge area?

So were you getting these fish by banging the rocks?

For all the travel the AML guides do, does seem like a lot of bigguns get caught all the time within sight of camp.
