Jon, you're going to have to accept your irrelevance in the sport of muskie fishing now that you enjoy fishing for other species. Didn't anybody tell you that in order to be a "real" muskie fisherman you need to forego the smallies, pannies, and such? And you're not supposed to intentionally target pike or even throw them in the livewell when you catch one. You're supposed to shake them off boatside and curse at them for wasting your time.

Relevance is catching and fishing for 50" muskies. If not you are inconsequential and your opinion does nor matter.

When you are so ticked off because you drove all night through a warm rainstorm to your favorite Muskie whole only to get on the water and watch the sun come up to a bright blue cold fall day.

When you are at the boat ramp on your secret spot with 5 muskie rod/reel combos, a giant net, giant tackle box with lures still thrown all over the deck, and no other gear for other species and a guy walks up looks at all the stuff in you boat and goes, are you fishing for musky? No I'm here for big bass.

It’s October and you get to the ramp before sunrise and you’re the first one there. Your bow line somehow unsnaps itself from the bow while launching. The sun is coming up and your boat is now 30 yards out in the lake. Instead of waiting an hour or more for someone to come along you decide to strip naked and swim out to get the boat so you don’t miss a possible sunrise bite.

when you first said, "this is my last cast" about 3 hours ago, with no more success than the previous 1000 casts. Because, there just might be a hit coming!

after three more hours they should be biting any minute...

You know you are a muskie fisherman when you are willing to spend your money and vacation time to travel to catch muskies.
You know you are muskie fisherman if you fish for days to catch a muskie and you end up catching a memorable one.

Here are some I'm not entirely proud of...

If you've ever looked out the window to see snow blowing sideways and said "It doesn't look THAT bad..." and decided to fish anyway.

If you've ever had to put your reel in the inside pocket of your coat to thaw it out

You've ever asked someone "hey, is there anything I can put on my guides to keep them from icing up?"

If you've ever resorted to trying to cast while kneeling on the front deck because it's too rough to stand

You've ever had to dunk your rod/reel in the water to wash the (your) blood off of it so you don't throw it in the lake

If you've ever said: "Man, this sucks. What the hell are we doing out here?!" and "Oop, there's one! This is awesome!!" in the same hour.

you know you're a muskie fisherman when your wife tells you, "our friends aren't as interested in muskies as you think they are..."

Get home and your wife is sour because she had to spend another 10-15 mins talking to the electrician or a plumber or the furnace guy about muskie just because they saw some of the lures hanging in the basement. "What the heck are those for?"

Or she's sour because Steve at work came over to her desk to ask if I've caught any big fish recently, then talks about the big one I caught last month for 20 minutes.

If your wife or kids are the ones who remind you it's a full moon by asking. "why aren't you fishing today, isn't it a full moon?". Umm yep, gotta go...

Everyone thinks you're done fishing for the year and are surprised when you tell them there's actually 2 months left in the season.

Fishing around ice flows is photo opportunity not a navigation concern.

You make fun of guys that go sit in tree stands for playing in tree forts like little kids, but you actually love that they do because they aren't on the lakes!

... if you think that thing in the middle of your boat is called a council.

... when you help you're friend's by telling them where you seen one. Then get mad when their fishing they're the next day.

Guys, needed this coming from an awful October bite that the weather was impossible. Have to set my mind right that fish just don't jump into your lap and that this addiction is a strong and will rule my life. Take a breath, reset, and try for the next 50"fish your going after. It's nice to know we have a strong brotherhood.

When it's the middle of June and your throwing a downsized safety pin spinner bait see another boat and switch to a pounder cause your not being confused for a gay ass bass fisherman.
When you second guess everything you have thrown spots you have fished only to not even get a bump. Sit down rethink that your just burnt out and the fish are there. So you stand up and do the exact same run of spots with the same baits and get the same results

Well, it kind of is the closest thing to a council that you've got.

Tells you where you are, where you've been, where you're going, and where you should be, if you listen.

Cold themed.....

When you store your wet Lindy release gloves with a hand warmer in a gallon zip lock bag to keep them from freezing solid.

When you ask the boatside fish to be patient while you dunk your frozen net a few times to open the basket.

When a cut on your hand doesn't bleed because you've been hypodermic for hours but still out because you want that third fish. (This doesn't apply to Al Warner.)

When you wake up in Vilas county(sunday) it's snowing and a blizzard is coming. You hooked up 5 times in 30min in the major the day before, your partner wants no part of the day and wants to drive home. He is in his early 70's and while I completely understand where he was coming from all i could think was ****, ****, goddammit, **** goddammit, ****!
