Sadness! He was a really nice person and a true pioneer in teaching different techniques on muskie fishing. My Dad and I rented a boat from him in the late 70's and caught a 42" on Star that day. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

Heard stories of fishing all day without food and water in the boat. Iron man, rip.

I’ve been to a lot of musky seminars, a musky seminar junkie really, I’ve even given several myself, but I’ve never been to anything quite like this guy. Tony was the genuine article, the real deal. He’d tell it like it is, no political correctness, and he was right. And, his copied to death Rizzo Whiz is likely the best single early season tournament bait still and period.

So glad I had a chance to meet him. Very gracious, he spent 30 minutes telling my 10 year old boy story after story and signed his copy of his book. True gentleman.

Sad news indeed, I m lucky enough to have fished with Tony on 2 occasions back in the mid 90s and more recently spoke with him for awhile at the SE WI musky show he seemed in good spirits and said he remembered me. He was an inspiration and a great innovator in this sport. One heck of a fisherman too and a super nice guy. He will truly be missed i may have to re read all his books

RIP Tony....

Absolutely horrible news! He was great from a by-gone era. Me and my boys were lucky enough to be invited to his home a few years ago and spent the afternoon listening to his stories in his trophy room. It was amazing that he could recall all of the circumstances of every musky picture he showed us. Godspeed Tony!

From 1980 to 1993 my parents used to give me a guide trip with Tony for Christmas.

What I learned about Muskie fishing and more importantly life from spending 8-10 hours on a boat with him, will stay with me forever. The relationship that developed was deep.

When my family decided to sell our house on the Cisco Chain and move to the Sugar Camp Chain, we consulted Tony.. His quote, "You guys Up North?" To which we replied "Yes"

He responded , " I'll meet you at the boat landing in an hour and show you how to fish the lakes, on me"

Thanks Tony... I'm heading Up North next week and will make a cast or 2 in your honor

God Speed

Tony wrote a lot of great books during his lifetime. Larry, if you ever decide to write a book about him, I have some great stories...

Another legend gone, but he will never be forgotten. He’s the reason I got into this sport and was my initial source of expertise for years. I think I made good choice there. A pioneer and one of the greatest for sure! He’ll be missed.

I was 10 when I bought Tonys first book in 1977. That was the start of my muskie obsession for the past 40 years. I got to know Tony when I moved north 3-4 years ago. Great guy, a irreplaceable legend. I loved how he would speak his peace, and always backed it up with decades of personal experiences. RIP Tony, you are one of the last of the true greats.
