| I'm going to be fishing my first tournament this fall. Does anyone have any tips or advice for tournament fishing? Anything from tactics for dealing with the increased pressure from all the boats on the water, trolling vs casting, or etiquette for trying to fish a popular spot. Much appreciated! |

| Go in with the idea of having fun and learning. Your chances of winning is slim at best. The pressure of winning money will just ruin the experience for you. Make sure your equipment is in tip top shape, hooks sharp, fresh line ect. |

| Have fun, make memories, but to answer your questions, I like to catch dumb fish, not smart educated ones, so unless I am hitting a community spot first because I'm faster or left before others I will probably not fish it unless I can see it vacant for a while, I'd rather fish small non community spots I know. Etiquette is basically don't fish within 2 casts of anyone, there will be rules for this including people who are not in the tournament. Also any illegal boating act will more than likely get you dq'ed so no wake means no wake, no operating on plane to close... |

| pick your spots based on efficiency so you're maximizing the time your baits are in the water (eg keep your spots close together for min running time)
bulldawg rule - someone at all times should be throwing rubber, especially during tough bites |

Location: Vilas | Ive done a few of the PMTT's .... slow down and fish ur spots thoroughly..down size ur baits as ur looking for #'s not size,. if u see a fish dont scream "THERES ONE" as youll be surrounded by other fishermen...also if u do an extended figure 8 and another boat sees it...well, ull have company too... that also kinda answers ur etiquette question... it seems to usually be the younger guys, maybe thinking theyre gonna be the next big name..

Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I agree with B. Hoffies… Go into it to have fun and learn as you go... no need to put undue pressure on your self thinking your a failure if you don't win.
Winning is great but not everything when it comes to fishing Tourneys.
STAY Positive and don't dwell on Negative crap.
I have a chance to win every Tourney I enter but if it doesn't happen then I still became a better Fisherman for doing it.

Location: Chisholm, MN | Also, just because it's a tournament and people may do it to you, leaves no excuse for crowding someone or cutting them off. Had it happen to me and it left a pretty bad taste in my mouth. I would never cut someone off even for the last muskie in the lake. |
