I gave up control of setting up the resort this year, and we are now staying at cedar point lodge...on the other side of the lake. The lodge looks nice on the website, but we never felt the need to journey this far west. Anyone ever had any experience there or any advice to get us going in the right direction when we get out on the water?
Thanks in advance!

Its in the heart of the Vermillion Bay section. Good location for fishing that area, Portage, West Arm, back channel, and South. All sorts of spots just within Waldof Bay where it's located. We've boated several 50's within eyesight of the resort.

That's very comforting to hear! I hope to introduce myself to one of those 50's this week. I will tell them you said hello! Any advice on tactics...blades, topwater I'm assuming is the standard for the time?

I was up 8/4-8/11. Typically, we see a lot on blades. About 2/3 of our fish are caught on the figure 8. Fishing was a bit different than in years past. We saw fewer fish, the fish were hitting out more, and they liked crank baits (grandmas, DDD's, and depthraiders) more than usual (walleye colors worked well). By the end of the week, action picked up and fish were coming to the boat and hitting blades. Fish were on rocks and weeds, but bigger fish and more active fish seemed to be on rocks. It's been a few weeks since, so I'm assuming rocks is where they'd primarily be at now. Looking at some online reports from the other resorts, it seems like fishing was good this past week.

I was thinking about starting with blades, but do you think cranks are a better option? When we would go in October, the 3 you mentioned (DDD, DR, GR) are primarily what we throw, with some big rubber mixed in too.

probably start with blades and go from there. If there are multiple guys in the boat you can allows mix it up to see what's seeing fish. They seem to move from blades to cranks the later you get, but this time of year is still generally mostly blades.

PM me if you'd like and I can provide more info.
