Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | I have done better fishing cabbage that has small amounts of coontail mixed in than any other type of weeds..... 6-10 feet of water. I really like cabbage and big Boulders together. What's your experience ? Larger weed beds/shore lines or smaller weedy bays ? G-Rome

Posts: 219 | Same! I agree. Combo of cover is good. Weeds and wood, or weeds and rock, or rock and wood, combo of weeds (coontail and cabbage)... stuff like that. And Big chunks is ok, on the idea bigger stuff hold more fish...... but smaller is easier to manage and sometimes more productive. My 2-cents.... Ross

Posts: 4080 Location: Elko - Lake Vermilion | The Bays west of Retreat Lodge and up into the Narrows are GOOD weed...s..... some places the weed growth is behind due to high water and later than Normal Ice Out. How's the weeds north west of Pine Island ? Love that area... The Chicane Rocks ! Haven't fished that area this yr. yet.

Fish on the chain where I live like cabbage but because of how dark the water is it doesn't grow much beyond 6 ft. Also, seems like the last two years we have lost a lot of cabbage. Don't know if we have picked up a bunch of rustys or if it is a cycle.
