is there is a big difference of psi from the start of a 10' hose vs the end ? let's say that i read 40 at the pressure gauge of the compressor what should i read if i would put another pressure gauge at the end of the hose ?

40lbs is 40 lbs. unless the hose has holes.

nope the number that you see at the tank regulator is calculated for the tank not the tank plus the hose. that's why some guys are adding another regulator at their airbrush. it's not the end of the world these numbers are just for reference

Most compressors have two gauges, one is the tank pressure and the second is the line pressure, or the amount that is going to the hose. Normally, the line pressure gauge has an adjustment so you can reduce or increase pressure in the line while the tank pressure stays the same. For example, my framing nailer runs best at 95 psi, but the tank switch comes on when the tank pressure gauge drops below 110 psi.

I have a (I consider it small one) pancake style compressor. Functions exactly how NO8 mentioned.

I myself ,run 2 regulators. basically for convenience. 1 at the tank that's built in and 1 near the gun. I usually paint from my Iwata tigershark. (sometimes from my quincy big azz compressor) similar to a refrigerator compressor. the reg near the gun is for dialing in what im painting. full coverage or fine lines depends on the pressure. You can set the tank regulator high and lower at the gun regulator. pretty basic logic here.
