| Looking for some advice/experience on shipping versus pick-up.
I was just informed my repro of my personal best northern pike is complete and ready for pick up or shipping. This is my first mount of any kind so looking for advice from those who have been down this road before.
I prefer to do the pick-up so I can not only see the mount in person before I take it, but also to thank the artist and their folks for the work. The drive is six hours each way and it could be a month or more before I can fit in the time on a weekend.
Mount was done by Lax if that matters. Shipping would be by SpeeDee.
Can anyone share their experience on shipping? Anything to worry about with potential damage of getting additional insurance or anything like that?

| I was in the same predicament as you a few years back. I had it shipped to my door for an extra $60. Rick packs em tight with styrofoam beads. I wouldn't worry about it at all. It takes a lot of time and $ for 12 hours on the road. JMO |

| Thanks for the advice Big Gun and Muskie Junkie.
I am leaning towards the shipping right now. My shipping price was $60 which seems like a deal. I was considering doing the wait for the shows route but am anxious to see it and also felt odd to ask them to store it until show season and then haul it to Chicago which would be closest for me.

Location: Home of the 2016 World Series Champion Cubs | I've had work done by lax and fittanre. Both use spee-dee. I'd green light it for sure. Spee-dee is very reliable. |

I am reluctant to put this out here because of how many discussions on this topic go, especially since the fish was not "bumped" but measured with a tape on the boa'ts casting deck (we wet the deck, vinyl - not carpet),but here it is.
Pike was a blink over 50". 22-3/4" girth. Caught it at Lac la Martre in 2016. We had just finished working a shallow bay and the guide was slowly working the boat through the end of the bay to a channel that short cut to the main lake. Water about 5' deep and clear to the bottom. I was on the casting deck watching for fish when I spotted a pair of nice size ones on the bottom about 20' from the boat. Asked the guide for neutral saying I had a nice fish sighted. Flipped a 6" Storm Curley Tail Shad in orange and black about 5 feet past the fish, twitched it past her and she ate. She burned off some line, and then I got her coming back to the boat where she jumped twice within 6 feet of the boat. When she jumped I realized that this was a much bigger fish than I had first thought while the guide and my fishing partner were exercising their best Holy S##### expletives. Guide was ready with the net, wheeled her around and got her in the bag.
I have been chasing big Esox Lucius for quite a few years at a few different lodges in Canada. Been going to Lac la Martre for the past four years and it has been some of the best fishing I have ever had. I have been very fortunate to have boated many pike in the 42" to 47" class and my fishing buddy and I have had this quest for a 50"er since we caught our first big girl in the mid 40"'s class some years ago. I don't think have pics here at work but I will do what I can to post. (I am not very computer literate) Also have limited decent pics as my fishing partner took the shots and was even more nervous than I was and many shots ended up garbage.

Where do you go for your pike ice fishing? That is on my bucket list for sure.
LOTW seems to put some big fish on the ice every spring right before ice out from the pics I have seen. I've ice fished out of Schusters for 'eyes and sauger some years ago and had a great timel but have not done a late ice pike trip anywhere.
Any suggestions?

if you are willing to travel, and want to have a blast catching absolute hog pike, look into a March trip to Tobin Lake, Sask.
I just ice fish my local waters, the St Lawrence River, which spits out pretty much big everything, and several lakes in the Adirondack mountains which have (what we call big) big pike. (40''-45" with a chance at an upper 40's..) |

Biggest pike in winter, by far, yes. Both live and dead depending on where and when! |

Location: WI | It is no problem having LAX ship the mount. I had the same issue as you and had them ship my mount to me in August. It arrived looking perfect. Couldn't be happier.

| Forgot to include some reference.
I'm 6'-2", 275. The little guy next to me is our guide, Steve.
Not the best pic as I had mentioned. Did not realize the tail was rolled back until after we released her. Rest of the pics were all shot low so lots of my crotch and belly and not much fish.
