Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | I am positing this in General Discussion to start, but keep an eye open in the event it is moved to a different section of MuskieFIRST. This is the initial thread to start us off and it covers a lot of ground. READ THIS THREAD THOROUGHLY. But, understandably, there will be questions and those will be addressed before matches start. In the meantime, get a team set up per the rules and get ready to fish! _____________________________________________________________________________________ First……Tackle Industries has agreed to be our MatchFISHING sponsor for 2016. Thank you, James!! The prizes available include a TI rod and a bunch of TI lures. Much appreciated James. Teams will be assigned to different pools, based on criteria yet to be determined. There must be a minimum of 12 teams to make this worthwhile but a lot more teams would be more fun and more competitive. There are a lot of ways we can set this up so I'm looking forward to many more teams getting involved. Over the course of May - August each team will have to fish against every team in their pool. A team wins a match by having more points than their opponent. Points are awarded based on size of legal fish caught and photo documented, with bonus point awarded for proof of being on the water regardless of fish caught (or not) At the end of the pool round, the team with the most points in each pool moves to the playoff round. Assuming there are enough teams to do so, I’d also expect some type of wild card(s) to advance out of the pools as well. The playoff format will be set up for September and we will finish with the MatchFISHING Championship in October. Participation is FREE, and there is a short list of requirements: 1. The group expects a commitment to participate in all respects – if you sign up, please fish the matches. 2. You must have the ability to provide me with digital pictures of your results 3. Respect the spirit of the event. The idea of MatchFISHING is to incent getting out on the water with friends/family, to have fun and to have friendly competition. 4. Don’t cheat. 5. Don’t be “Richards” to MuskieFIRST, your opponents, others on the water, property owners, the DNR, me……..you get the picture. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RULES Teams: A team consists of one or two fishermen, fishing with each other from one boat at the same time. Teams may not have three people in the boat at any time during a match. If one of the team members is unavailable, a substitute may fill in, but one of the people fishing must be a team member. Professional fishing guides are welcome to participate as competitors in MatchFISHING with their own team, but teams may not hire a paid guide as a substitute team member. In this set-up thread, please post a reply with the following: team name names of team members City & State of each member (email me your full address in the event I need to send you a prize later) Cell #s for each member e-mail for each member required two dates (minimum) for fishing availability. Matches: A match consists of two teams fishing against each other ON THE SAME DAY. Teams may fish different waters, but all fishing by both teams must take place between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm on the day of the scheduled match. For example…..A team on vacation at LOTW can fish against their opponent who is on vacation on Mille Lacs as long as it is on the same day. You will be required to fish against all teams in your pool. Each team has until 12:00 pm (noon) the day after their match to submit photos and results. When you report in, your message must include the photo(s), length of fish caught, your team name, the date of your match and who your opponent is. The date/time received on my cell phone and/or email will be the official record so make sure you send them as soon as you can after your match. Teams failing to report results by the deadline will not be given points for any fish they may have caught that day. No exceptions. We will place results and images in THIS thread. DO NOT POST YOUR OWN RESULTS anywhere! Photos and results must be sent to: Mike Morse (BigMo) [email protected] (920) 213-0898 For back-up purposes only, Slamr can accept match info for me. I will let you know in advance if I will be unavailable and when you should connect with Slamr. Otherwise, do not send him match info or try to get items from him. Andrew Golden [email protected] (847) 989-9271 No rematches are allowed during the pool play rounds. Each match will be scored according to the results on the day of the match: win, lose, or tie. Scheduling: As long as you are fishing water on or after its seasonal opening date, Pool matches can begin at Midnight May 7, 2016 and must conclude by 11:59 pm August 31, 2015. When each team signs up, they are required to provide two days during each of the months of June/July/August that they guarantee they will be available to fish a match to help get the matches set. Teams will not be entered into MatchFISHING until they provide these dates. If another team in their pool challenges them (by posting it online) to fish on one of the days they provided, the match will take place on that day unless both teams agree to change it. All agreed upon matches must be posted in the MatchFiISHING thread with both team names and the date to be fished. If one of the teams is a “no-show” on an agreed upon match date, the match still counts. The absent team will simply receive 0 points. Please be flexible and do everything you can to schedule matches and honor the commitments, or communicate with other teams for rescheduling. 90+ days should be more than enough to get Pool matches in. There were some issues in the past with anglers that had an odd schedule for work and/or life; for example, those that are able to fish a lot from Mondays-Thursdays. Everyone has to be flexible and put the effort into making the scheduling work. Again, 90+ days should be sufficient to make pool play work. Items: Once a match is scheduled, teams will be assigned an item of some sort. This item must be visible in a picture taken with any muskies they catch on the day of the match. We will try to make it unique and interesting. I am your source of the items. I will have record of all the properly posted match dates and will provide items via MuskieFirst, text, e-mail or cell call no sooner than the day before the match. Items will not be given out early under any circumstance. Failure to include the item in the photograph disqualifies that fish from scoring points. No exceptions. Scoring: Points for Qualifying Fish: Minimum size of 35” 35” = 5 points every 1” above that earns 1 point any ½” is rounded up Points Per Match for Pool Standings: Point total of fish length for each team + 2 points to the winning team or + 1 point for each team if there is a tie with fish point totals + 1 point for each team being on the water for the match (verified by photos with the item) 0 points for losing a match due to non-participation The reason we score this way is 1) the fish point method is a common tournament method 2) it will determine playoff seeding 3) it will provide potential tiebreaker information for later rounds The team with the highest point total wins the pool. In the event of a tie in pool matches, the tie-breaker will be largest fish caught during pool play. Playoff Rounds: The winner of each pool, and likely some type of wild card(s) team(s), will advance to the playoff round. Each team will be seeded according to their FISH POINT total from Pool play. #1 will fish head-to-head versus #4, #2 will fish head-to-head versus #3. The first Playoff Round (semi-final) clock will begin at Midnight on September 1, 2016. These matches must be completed by 11:59 pm on September 30, 2016. The winners of the Playoff Round will advance to the Championship. The Championship period is Midnight October 1, 2016 through 11:59 pm on October 31, 2016. During the playoff round and championship, rematches will be allowed in the case of ties until one team wins. If neither team is able to win a match before the end of the time allowed, total Fish Points from all qualified matches will determine the winner. If total fish points are a tie, the largest fish caught during all rounds determines the winner.

Posts: 427 | Are you going to have a bracket for southern teams that is wrapped up by mid June due to water temps?

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | Hoosier, With not knowing how many teams will sign up and where they are all located, I can't say there will be a "South bracket". What I can tell you is that: 1) I wouldn't be inclined to set up a bracket to specifically coincide with water temps. 2) If there were to be a full bracket in a region with higher water temps in summer, I would still keep the dates May - August. I'd leave it up to the teams to set their matches based on dates that fit their calendars and practices. May - August provides enough time to work around water temps. If a bracket or individual teams are done with their matches by end of June, no problem at all.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | I'd like to set the deadline for sign-up as April 30. I want to have everything ready and set up before May 7. The initial flurry of entries was good. I'm going to plan that we have at least 12 teams by April 30. ** But, I am also thinking about options to work with less than 12. In a worst case scenario, even if we have to go with what we have today (8), we will still move ahead with MatchFishing. However, let's be positive and encourage more teams to get in! If you are even pondering participation but have questions or concerns, please reach me on MuskieFirst or via my contact information. I'd be happy to address your questions and perhaps tilt you in favor of MatchFishing.

Posts: 617 Location: Clintonville, WI | Please do NOT let a later opener deter you from MatchFishing. That is why I like the Aug 31 conclusion to the pool matches. That should give the June opener anglers time to get matches in. It looks like their will be 12 or more teams to divide into pools, so depending on how I divide this up, there could be 3-5 matches one needs to fish. Eight weeks between a mid-June opener and end of Aug should be enough, yes?
