Wondering if I should rebuild my Calcutta te 400 it's loose inside but in decent structural shape.
Or I'm thinking of going with a Tranx 400A
Yes I know,,big difference between $300 and a tune up with possible parts,,not an issue.
For you guys that had have both how does the performance compare between today's Tranx 400 and a Calcutta te that's in prime shape

I'm interested only in the 400 size tranx
May part with the te

You won’t ever regret getting a tranx 400. Compact with lots of power. Solid and smooth. I’ve had the Calcuttas and there’s no comparison, in my opinion.

I am going the other way, fix your TE, mine still runs awesome.

Tranx 400 heading to a service center to fix multiple line guide / drag issues. Evidently this issues were fixed in new versions, but I was not so lucky

Really almost a different application. The Tranx is quite a bit faster on the retrieve...about 5 inches of line per turn faster.

I had both I like both, the TE was tough to back the drag off if it was locked down where the tranx is easy to back off 1/2 turn in case things go ballistic at the boat.

No clicker on the tranx if you care about that...again different.

Personally I sold my TE's and have not looked back I like the Tranx

I have a Tranx from the first year they came out, which is when the level wind and star drag issues came up the most. To my knowledge, Shimano addressed these issues in future editions / years, but mine needs some TLC which it will get this off season to correct both of these concerns which really reared their ugly head this year. I have spoken to a couple reel folk who confirmed what is occurring and that they can correct it for me. The issues really got bad well beyond my one year warranty, so sending to Shimano would cost me to replace / upgrade also. Such is life.

My TE is still a mainstay for me and got the bulk of the work the last couple months while my Tranx is on PUP list at this time.

I'd be happy Happy to fix your TE up for you. I stock a lot of parts for them and sometimes I think I could almost do them blindfolded.

I would by a HG tranx 400, for the highspeed times, and get the TE tuned up for the slower times, i still use the TE and conquest through out parts of the season.

I finally parted with my Calcutta TE's due to difficulty getting parts for repair/service. So far so good with the Tranx 400. Only 1 season in, so hoping no regrets down the road.

A good friend of mine who's a gifted rod builder once said, "funny how our favorite rods always have TEs on um"
