Posts: 86 Location: Illinois | Taking a week long trip there next summer, most likely July. What are the best lures for that time? PM me if preferred. Thanks.

Posts: 16 | Depends on where but for most of the northern section, except clearwater bay. Bucktails - double's or singles - silver for sure, and combo with silver with chartreuse, gold-orange - for tail, I like maribou with some flash in it, black w green, black on black, and a white tail or black. I fish there once a year but have friends who fish it year round. Lots of youtube videos up there, watch them all. Shallow raider - most people throw this in perch pattern Super Shad rap - silver Top raider - loon Suicks - dont fish them, haven't seen many fish them up there either but I am sure people do, probably catch more than myself as well. I don't switch baits too often

Posts: 409 Location: Almond, WI | Odd detail we noticed this year: the week we were up they preferred long, narrow profile bucktails. One of our guys had a 4 fish day on a homemade dbl 7 with an oversized extra long tail, I caught two and lost one on a Ghosttail, another of our guys caught 3 muskies and the biggest pike on a 7/10 stacked blade bucktail.

Posts: 157 Location: West Central WI | It's always good to have a single hook spinner like a Bucher Slopmaster to throw back into the reeds to pull muskies out. I always have about 5 in my tackle box with me at all times up there because they get chewed so often. Swap out the original tail with something 6-8" long in green or white. I also use them over rocks and around wood if I don't want to catch a treble hook. The biggest muskie my brother ever saw up there (50+) followed a Slopmaster out of thick reeds, but didn't didn't bite. Came back an hour later and pulled it out again but no bite. Pike love them too.

If memory serves, big game has another line of baits that are molded (not balsa) with circuit board lips. When they first came out, reports from loyal big game users stated you could hammer a nail with them and they'd keep comin back for more. Haven't heard much since and i can't recall if they ever held the coveted "Bait of the Week" status.

Posts: 20178 Location: oswego, il | How is the action compared to say a crane? I had a couple a long time ago and I wasn't impressed. I assume the ones you guys are talking about are different?

Posts: 267 | Don't go up there without at least a couple Mepps Muskie Killers in black nickle and black orange. Ditto a couple 700 Series Buchertails.
