Canada made some changes to their laws that affect the ability to travel into Canada with DWI convictions. There will no longer be a rehabilitation status for DWI, effective December 18, 2018.

Well, that change only impacts new DWI that occur AFTER Dec. 18, 2018...it won't have any effect on someone who has an old offense that's already been deemed rehabilitated. So don't go drink and drive, okay?

Once the changes come into effect and an impaired driving offence becomes serious criminality, obtaining so-called deemed rehabilitation will not be possible for offences committed after December 18, 2018.

That is correct. All the more reason to avoid a DWI!
