| Just looking to get some feedback from other early risers. Over the past 5 years, I've got out and fished almost every Sat & Sunday morning from approx. 6am - 10.
I've used to think that the quiet early hours were the best fishing times. My experience is the opposite. I don't think I've ever caught a Muskie prior 6:30am, the odd one before 7. A couple between 7-8. Then, it's like an alarm clock goes off, 8am to 10 is when I catch the vast majority of my fish.
Is this what you guys have experienced, or are you getting early morning fish?

Location: MN | I have caught two before 7 am one of which was my biggest and I have not fished many early mornings. I would guess it has to do with the lake. Real busy lakes seem to produce better early morning and night. |

| Depends on the time of year and when the sunrises rather than the time on the clock. My experiences shortly after sunrise are similar to my experiences at sunset. In June sunrise is too early for me. In August, I will be out there. |

| It depends...
I've had AM action, but sometimes it is at 9AM or 10AM and others it is 430AM. Also, where I fish, sometimes the AM is better than the PM and sometimes it is the opposite. Sometimes the solunar stuff is a big factor, sometimes it is weather change. No hard rules IMO, just go when you can and make the best of it. |

Location: Black Creek, WI | I love mornings. If you are not having success, perhaps you need to adjust your location choices for that time of day? Where they are at dawn may not be where they are at noon. My favorite morning bite is during cool downs. Local weather and seasonal changes push fish into some predictable locations. I love the early fall cool down period for morning fishing (Aug/Sept).... but it can create opportunities right until ice up. My son got this nice one on July 3 when we had a 4 day cool down in northern WI. He caught it at 7am when the first morning sun started to warm an east facing weedbed.

| I always thought that the timing you describe indicates fish that are eating a lot of perch.
I have no scientific data to back this up. And I stand by all of it. |

| All things being equal weather-wise, I'd say that sunset/dusk is probably more consistent than dawn/sunrise...but definitely dawn/sunrise is a good time to be on the water, especially in late summer and into fall as jlong noted above. Also on busy, heavily pressured waters there seems to be a relatively consistent early morning bite.
But of course, weather seems to trump everything. |

| I have caught them early, mid day and late----I think evening is best but maybe because I love to fish at this time more than any other thus probably spend more time and fish with more confidence at this time. When you think you have it all figured out and dialed in--- Something new and different will happen changing your mind---Best time to fish is whenever you can!!!! |

| Not that I have caught a ton of fish but I have caught them throughout the day. The majority have come from mid-morning but I have gotten one at 7ish and a few midday and mid-late afternoon.
I think unless you are dealing with boat traffic/super warm water, then fish should be catchable just about any time of the day, you just have to be in the right place at the right time while they are active. That being said, I will fish anytime I can get out since I live a little over 2 hrs from the nearest musky lake. |

Location: Eau Claire,WI | I am different,(those who know me will say the same thing), I get lots of fish in the first hour of the day. In summer I toss a topwater,over 100 muskies,over the years, don't lie.. I use a SLOW moving topwater in the largest weedbed in the system.In fall I head twords the food source and do ok, nothing like the summer...Don't give up,been a slow year for me too. Plus,I have the water to myself! |

Location: West Metro, MN | For me it seems that the 1st hour of light is more important than the time on the clock in terms of fish activity. I got my 2nd biggest fish of the year last year on the 4th cast of the day right as the sun was hitting the horizon. At the risk of sounding older than I am (33), there is nothing more peaceful than sun rising over the horizon casting for muskies and drinking a mug of coffee. Perfection!

Early morning + Summer + Topwaters is a super combo for some of the most fun strikes (and sometimes misses) of the year. Not many a summer morning goes by when I don't have some kind of action early there. If the air is cooler than the water and you have a little fog/mist....icing on the cake.
