Location: SE Wisc | St Croix lists their “Blue Ox” model with a lure rating of 8-24 oz. They list the “Big Dawg” model as 6-12. These are both XH rods, one a 9’ the other 8’6”.
Why the huge difference in rating? The length shouldn’t make a difference. |

Location: MN | There is no physical meaning to the "XH" distinction - it is an arbitrary range that varies with different manufacturers and even different rods from the same manufacturer.
The lure weight range is what you should pay attention to. |

| I have two different rod rated at XL and they are two really different rods. (one Thorne Brothers Pred the other old org. G. Loomis) And the Pred I think a St. Croix blank. |

| Well I went and looked at my two XL rods The Loomis is 7' 10" (that's what is stamped on it but when I put a ruler on it's 7' 11") and is rated for lures 1-6. The Thornes is 9' and has no lure weight posted? However when I bought the Thornes I asked the salesmen "can this handle a pounder"? No problem what's so ever! Both great rods! |

Location: SE Wisc | Seems odd to have the same XH rating for two rods from the same line with much different specs. I can understand differences between two different makes or even different models from same manufacture but this is if nothing else, confusing. Was hoping someone on here actually had the “Ox” model to give insight. |

| When I buy a Muskie Rod I what to hold it, wave it around and even have the salesmen put on a reel on it before I buy. |
