| I have only been serious after the esox for a few weeks now, so this might be a dumb question, but I still have not had a follow with a Dawg?? I have had many on glide baits but not a single look at a dawg? Am I using it wrong?? Whats the best way to fish these things? Would also like to know what glide baits work best? I have noticed there are many out there that are just a shave or two from being the same thing. Thanks again for the endless information I have gained from this board.

| Randy there really isn't a wrong way to fish a dawg. Straight retreives have worked for me, but I am more successful with a jerkbait style retreive. I real slowly and give the bait a good snap of the rod every 5 cranks of the real. You can also just do long pulls of the rod all the way in. I don't do it much myself, but I know a few guys that crank really fast instead of the jerk method I use. This is the way the package tells you to work it. Good luck with the dawg it is a great bait![:praise:] |

| Randy,
Your analysis of "gliders" is fairly accurate, there are many that basically do the same thing.
Some of the better ones out there are:
Undertakers
Phantoms
Cobbs
Magic Makers
Squirko/Jerko
There are many others:
Hugh's
Blitzen Shad
etc.
etc.
etc.

| Randy,
I know the waters that you fish....if you want a heads up on the use of the Dawgs out there or on gliders....feel free to give me a call. 847/989-9271
But a few tips for now....run the dawg SLOW this time of year, either straight retrieve or a pull-pause-pull-pause. Same with the gliders, I find in these water temps a glider that can HANG in the water will be the one that can get the best action.

| During warmer trends I have found that ripping has been my most productive retrieve. That is , sharp 3-4 ft quick pulls winding up slack quickly in between. This technique was made for dawgs, as they will hang on to this bait longer, during slack periods. Also the lift and drop along the bottom may reward you with the biggest fish in the system. Don't give up on this bait, whatever you do. It will catch fish when all others fail. |

| Anyone have any luck with predominantly black dawgs in cold fall water, say 40's? Seems we always favor the pale shades when it gets cold, just wondering.... |

| I like white this time of the year. Low and slow. Better contrast against a dark bottom.

| Low and slow until it gets below the boat and your line is almost straight down in front of you,,then make a violent rip up about half way up and pause then another violent rip to the top,,it sometimes triggers following fish and by ripping it twice you give the fish two chances at it. Bulldawgs are great fall baits but I too am in lkind of slump right now |
