Our little guy is doing fantastic, albeit he is getting over a nasty case of the flu. Grandma had him all weekend to love and cuddle on. Returned him home, set him on the floor, didn't even get his coat off when all of a sudden he started vomiting. He has been sick since, but seems to be on the upside of it now. Never gave me any indication he was not feeling up to par prior to that. Very thankful it didn't start in the car on the trip home though!

Other than that, not much is going on. He continues in speech therapy and his speech is coming along slowly. He can say a lot of different phrases, but unless you know him and have been around him, it's not easily understood.

His next visit to Madison is May 9th. This time Grandma gets to go with. We will stay at the Ronald McDonald house overnight on the 8th, as his appointment is first thing in the morning. After that check-up we will know more on what lays ahead of him.

So not much to report, besides that he is growing like a weed and eats like a little horse. Favorite food is bananas, had three of them over the weekend at Grandma's. Would eat them constantly if we let him. I guess we're raising a little monkey boy!!!! But what a happy-go-lucky little monkey boy he is! Always smiling, playing, or climbing on something.

Thanks for caring,

Gram Jo-----

New Update....

Seems our little "Monkey Boy" has more problems than we knew about already. My daughter took him to the doctor 'cuz when he bent over in front of her she noticed his little backbone looked kind of funny.

Doctor says he was born with a mild case of spina bifida, that he has some under-developed vertabrae. She has to take him back to another doctor tomorrow for a more in-depth check-up.

Seems that when you are born with a genetic defect that this defect seems to play out in many other areas also. My poor little guy seems to have gotten the short end of the stick.

But, no matter, we will deal with whatever comes his way. He is our "Little Trooper" and that's all there is to it. Love conquers all, and he has plenty of that...

I'll give you more of an update tomorrow after he has seen the doctor. Until then, keep him in your prayers....

Thanks for listening,

Gram Jo----

Everyone,

Little Trooper went to the other doctor, and the new doc seems to think he will grow out of this new problem with only minimal problems along the way as he has good flexibility and range of motion.

Was a load off of our minds, only want to hear good news for our little guy! Thanks for the prayers, your support is always appreciated!!!!

Will let you know what happens in Madison next month, once he has his next check-up with the specialists. Thanks again ....

fingers crossed for the next check-up. I'm happy to read that his back-problem isn't as bad as it looked at first! That's the last thing he needs when we take him fishing! Thanks for the updates!

While I just joined the board, I did search through old posts to find out what was wrong with Ashton. My nephew was born with a cleft lip/pallet and my sister went through a lot of the same stuff. He's now 10 years old, his speech is still a bit shaky, but anyone can understand him and he's done with his surgeries and you can honestly not tell there was anything ever wrong. I'm sure Ashton will come through this without a hitch.

Gram

Thanks for the updates. Hope things continue this well. Keep your chins up and look on the bright side. No matter how bad it is, it could always be worse...so count your blessings.

We do and HE IS ONE OF THEM! Thanks for the encouraging thoughts.

As I get older though, it may get harder to keep holding all "my" chins up!!!!!!!
