Location: Waukee, IA | You can upgrade to carbontex drag washers and it will add a pound or two, but ultimately it's limited by its engineering. I'm not as familiar with Shimano drag systems, but in ABU reels, which are also 15lb, it's simply too small of a drag washer to supply more drag pressure and reliability at the same time. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I can give you a more complete answer. |

Location: MN | You are correct. Too few washers and too small. Just barely enough drag, which slips now and then |

Location: mercer wi | What advantages does the carbontex washers have over stock. How much would that washer increase # of drag. I tighten down my drag all the way n thumb reel when fighting fish. So I dont really need a super smooth drag. |

Location: Waukee, IA | Aftermarket drag washers (carbontex) offer a slight increase in maximum drag and good gains in longevity and smoothness. I have seen claims of up to 20% increase in drag pressure so +3 lb on your reel. The washer PIKEMASTER offers is likely a thicker replacement for a washer that holds the carbon washers in place allowing for a tighter fit thusly more drag. If you are concerned you should send the reel to him and get it pimped. |

How much of an upgrade in drag do you think you might get? |

I would think 3-5 lb more and a Very smooth when drag is pulled. |

| That drag on that 400D has cost me bigtime...I lost a good Tarpon last year and she blew up my D. I need to get it fixed but learned fast the amount of drag on the D was not near enough to slow down an Oceanside fish. I recently switched to the Lexa with 22-25# of drag and what a difference in stopping big Tarpon. I handled these fish fantastic with the Lexa. I also noticed the D slipping on Muskie hooksets and just doesn't feel near as strong as the old TE drags. Very disappointed in the new D reels. One decent Tarpon run and the reel is ruined. I've got several reels in need of fixing, upgrading and cleaning this winter which is like to send to Pikemaster.... |

| Wish they would bring back the TE's. Those #*^@ Conquests seem to run $550 plus on eBay. I'm not interested in the D model. I've got five of the TE's and Pikemaster is going to need to keep them running for me until I'm too old to fish anymore. |

| I was pumped up for the new 400D!! I could not wait for it to come out!!! I'm just not happy at all with them! I gave 2 a pretty good work out on Tarpon last year and it didn't take long for the reel to stop working properly. I have to say the Lexa 300 outperformed the 400D in every way on giant Tarpon and they are a 1/3 of the cost of a 400D. |
